Hi, I just had rou-en-y on March 5, 2007. I had a GI bleed two days post op..(which is pretty common). I just am very nervous since this experience. Would any one share there story and give any tips for the pureed diet and some good protein sources. Thanks a lot... :help:

Hi Kim, Glad you're doing well now. Happy one week! My experience was great. I had my surgery on a Monday, was home on Wednesday. Other than tiredness and that "be very careful getting up or laying down" pain, I had no problems and got that delightful drain pulled at 10 days. (There's an unusual experience!!!!) Only took the pain meds for a short time and pretty much just at night. The pureed diet: I went back and checked my notebook. Wendy's chili, refried beans with cheese and sour cream, cottage cheese, cream soups (one of my first meals out was clam chowder at Mitchell's Fishhouse---chewed those clams to nothing and had a neat pile of potato cubes stacked by the bowl---the waiter must have thought I was insane, ricotta heated with spaghetti sauce, SF pudding made with protein powder, applesauce, SF yogurt, baked potato with cheese and sc, generally anything I could smash into nothingness. You could try chicken salad or ham salad (they wouldn't work for me) Chicken is still bad news. And walk, walk, walk..... Let me know if I can be of help. Will you be going to Dr. C's support groups at Deaconess? Maybe I'll see you there. -174 lbs. since 12/05/05. Goal: -26 more

Thanks a bunch for the reply.... It seems at times that there are sooooo many lap banders and not many of us rou-en-y people left. I didn't realize I could puree chili.I thought the only foods, I could have were on that handout, I was given; and that is very limiting. I used to love wendy's chili; but my tastes have changed and I don't know if I would still like it. I sure will try it... I am really nervous about complications... but I guess that is normal because of the complication.. I already had... I was in Icu for around a day and a half.. had to get blood. I feel better now.... just being at home with my husband and I too barely take the pain med now. When is Dr. Curry next support group? I went the two mandatory times....but found It was basically all lap band.... I would like to talk with people who have had this surgery... that is why I joined this site.. Thanks again for the reply.... Kim

You are six months out and already lost 100 pounds. What are you doing to lose that quick? I am 2 1/2 months out and I have lost 25 pounds --- but I would love for those pounds to move quicker. Any suggestions you have would be great!

yeah the lapbanders are taking over. the next support group is the 15th-dr.. martin is going to talk about plastic surgery. I think I will pass on that one. The dates in Aril are the 12th and 26th. I will probably be there the 12th. heck wendy's chili saved me--it was and is still yummy. make sure you get in your liquids. i know right now you probably do not feel like drinking much but it is so important. take care and good luck on your journey mj

Kimberly let me first start by saying what a great doc you had in Dr. C. I have had two many complications to list here. Don't be to nervous about this. My best advice to you as someone who had surgery 6 years ago, is keep up with your blood levels and take those vitamins! Sandy
