I had my Lap RNY on 3/7 and I was wondering how long I should wait to drive. My booklet says when I am no longer taking pain meds and I haven't in a few days. I am home, but antsy to do things!!!! I want to go, go, go but don't want to jeopardize my health. Any insight, please respond! Thanks.

I waited until I had been off Vicodin for 24 hrs., then I drive short distances--to WalMart and such--I have a handicapped parking tag I use when I take my mother in law with me--I used that and parked close, simply because my surgery was in Feb., and I didn't want to fall on snow or anything...

I would ask your doctor. My doctor said 2 weeks after surgery... even then I didn't end up driving until about 3 weeks out.

Hi Papa, Congratulations on your successful surgery!!! I had my surgery on 2/26 and my book said to wait until I was off the pain med's too. I actully drove today (3/13/07) for the first time (I also cleaned my car). I only went to my son's school and back (freedom, sweet freedom!!!) I didn't have any trouble. The seat belt kinda had to be lose b/c my incisions are still healing but other than than, it was fine. Hope this helps..... Kym
