Hi I just called last week to get information about the lap-band surgery and I was told it would take 6 months! Is that normal? I have to go to a lecture Mar 19th and then call the Dr's office back to set up an appointment. I called my insurance and they stated it would be covered! They require a psych eval and nutritional counseling. I am hopeful, but scared at the same time. Six months seems like awhile to wait? I would like to hear from others.

Hello Linda....it took me about 4 1/2 months. Well, I have my Lap RNY surgery on the 21st. Anyway 6 months is about average. Where were you looking into having the procedure done? I guess it doesn't matter, at least your making a start. Good luck! Dave

Where are you getting this done Linda? I'm going through OSU and have been at it since July, 2006. I'm waiting for my appointment any time now. I had a 12 week WLP to attend, some places require you to attend a 6 month WLP. It all depends on how much testing they need too. They're all different. I think 6 mons. sounds good. Peggy

HI Linda, Congratulations on taking the first step to a healthy new you. I actually had the Lap RNY 2 weeks ago. My process was relatively easy and quick. I went to my seminar in Aug 06, went for the consult w/ dr. on 9/27 and approved first week of Oct. I waited until Feb to have it b/c of my insurance was an 80/20 with a $2375 deductible that ST. Vincent required up front and I was unable to come up with. So I waited until the new year when my insurance changed and I was able to do the EPO with a small amount out of pocket. Mine was really fast b/c my insurance company only required a BMI over 40 for at least the past 5 years. That's all. I feel so sad for all these folks that write and say they had to have a psych eveal, 6 months WLP, etc. Im very blessed. But I think 6 months is about average. Call your insurance company and find out where you can go for the WLP diet and get started on that straight away! Best wishes to ya Kym
