Hi all, Well I am 5 months out and down 97 pounds, which is great and I feel wonderful. However, 2 days ago, I had 2 jelly beans, and it set me off. I was a huge binge eater before, and now, cant binge because of the surgery, thank goodness, but I am in that "I am bad" and "all or nothing" mode. I feel I have "blown"it and want to eat everything. I have been eating more than I have the last 2 days, and not making great food choices. For example, I had some cashews yesterday, as I see them as "protein" well, all through the day I have been reaching and getting handfulls of them. I have been under lots of stress lately and I am know that is how I have always dealt with that before, eat eat and eat. That is how I got were I was before. SO, WHAT DO I DO TO STOP THIS SABATOGING BEHAVOIR???????? I am up 1 pound this morning, which I know it not much, but pound after pound, it will add up. What am I doing this to myself, gotta get in a better mind set! Any words of wisdom out there? Thanks, Michelle

Hey Michelle, You're in luck! The 1 lb. might just be water retention from the salt on the cashews! OK, seriously, you're not the only one who has binge eaten before, or uses food as a coping mechanism for stress. As you know, WLS only deals with the physical side of our morbid obesity. No great words of wisdom, but maybe a few strategies: OA deals with the emotional and spiritual aspects of compulsive overeating, you can find a local meeting by calling the Cleveland office. Our hospital has a good psych. Dr. That may help you learn new behaviors. Are you staying connected with others through local support group? That seems to help me a lot, especially in the wintertime, seeing each other face to face, and trading email between meetings. We didn't get a lobotomy, just WLS. Don't beat yourself up too much, we all have out times. Just try to remember we're in this for the long haul. Hugs, Doug

I think the support of others is very important. I don't have a support group either... but the farther I get out and the better I feel, the more I see the need... It's easy when you are not nauseated to feel the need to overeat... we still have to controle the "head hunger" .....I do use the spiritual nourishing to help me control and have a cup of tea and do devotions in the evening when I feel snackey... Good luck, hang in there.... you can do it! Pam

That was some good advice about OA. I went to them a long time ago and they helped me to stop binging on donuts. Maybe they can help you too. I am POD #6 and craving everything under the sun. I'm not hungry and am still on the pureed foods. But the fact that you have lost 97lbs is an inspiration to me because I know how hard this is for you. Find that inner strength that got you this far and keep reaching out. If you keep this bottled up, your behavoir won't stop. You are doing the right thing. And don't be a slave to the scale. I learned that a long time ago. Those things can make you CRAZY!! I'll keep you in my prayers Adriane
