Mt. Carmel West-Columbus

Hey everyone! I have been researching the Lap Band procedure and have been accepted as a candidate at Mt. Carmel West. There are several tasks I have to complete before I can even schehdule the surgery. Just out of curiosity, has anyone had the surgery at this hospital?? If so, what was your experience like throughout the process? I know there is a waiting list of like 3 or 4 months to even have the surgery. Thanks! Amy

I, too, am researching Lap Band but I'm going through OSU for mine. I have had surgery at Mt. Carmel (State Street) though and was very pleased with the care I got. It was quite a while ago though, back in 1991. Sorry I couldn't help you with WLS. I don't know anything about their program. Good Luck on your journey. Peggy

Hello Amy! I had open RNY at Mt Carmel West. My surgeon was Choban. She was great. The whole process went very smooth. I think it took me under 6 months to complete everything. There are a lot of hoops to jump through. At least my insurance company had me do a lot. I don't know much about the lap band procedure because they just started doing it and I knew it wasn't an option for me. I think after I was approved by my insurance co I had a date within a month. Hey Amy, I went to the seminar Thursday for the lap band at Mt. Carmel. Dr. Miller was there. I stayed after and talked to Missy and the lady that handles all the insurance. A friend of mine had the bypass with Dr. Price (3 years ago) and she is half the person that she was. She really liked the Dr. and the people there were really helpful. I was told that it I had to do a 6 month diet with a dr before my insurance would approve the procedure. I ended up having to change my family doctor since he would not help me. Good luck to you. As far as the waiting list, Dr. Miller said that it depends on who you want to do your surgery. The waiting list for Dr. Price is alot longer than for Dr. Choban. Dr. Miller does not do the lap band procedure yet.
