Hello all. Doing alot of searching for my husband. He has more than enough reason to be able to get gastric bypass. Severe exhaustion from sleep apnea is the top of the list. Although secretly I do want to buy him clothes without the term "casual male" Anyways, does anybody out there have any sucess with this particular insurance covering any of the surgery...even though there is a wls exclusion. Also did anybody seek out supplementary insurance that covered wls?

Hi Catherine I have that insurance. My paperwork was sent in by Barix and I was approved in a week. Now, I do have to tell you, they sent me the wrong paper, so now I have to wait before I can schedule, but that is just a formality and should be here any day now because they told me they sent it out Wednesday. It is covered though. Good Luck to you both!

did the policy have a written exclusion for gastric bypass and you got approved through medical necessity?

Honestly speaking, I do not believe there is a written exclusion, although they didn't tell me why I was approved, maybe its in the letter I will receive in the next couple of days. I will let you know what it says. I do have diabetes and asthma, so I'm sure that had something to do with it and My BMI was also over 40. Does he have co-morbities, or do they run in his family? does he have a BMI over 40? I would call them and ask them. Are you in Columbus? I have to say I absolutely love the Barix Clinic. They were wonderful in all of this. Very friendly, very professional. I originally checked out Mt. Carmel, but Barix just seemed like the best for me.

If there is a specific exclusion for WLS even for morbid obesity, then it doesn't look good. Look closely at your policy. Hugs, Darlene

I have the same insurance. I called today to see if bariatric surgery is covered and they just said, "no". I am hoping I can write a letter or something to convince them.
