Hi Amber: I was petrified of the hairloss. I will be one year post op on the 1st of March and I did lose a lot of hair. Thank God I had lots of hair. After I started losing the hair, my friend who is a hairdresser recommended that I start using Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner. It is costly but I used it every day. I massaged my scalp with the shampoo and then with the conditioner and rinsed well. I noticed a big change in the amount of hair I was losing. I only wish that I had known about it earlier. It might have helped with the hair loss. I am not saying that you won't lose hair by using it, but it did help slow mine down. Also, be sure you get plenty of protein every day!!! This is the most important thing I can tell you. It will help with everything.....energy, hair loss, weight loss... it is very important. I hated eating meat so I bought little protein shooters from Bariatriceating.com and they have 40 grams of protein in 3 ounces of liquid. You drink two a day and you have fulfilled your protein intake. You still need to eat meat, vegatables and more vegetables but for some, like me, who can not tollerate the meat and eggs, the shooters are awesome. And they are Whey protein which is great! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to assist you in any way I can. God Bless you and good luck with your upcoming surgery!! Hugs, Traci Baylon

I have not had surgery yet. I am on the 6 month supervised diet. I am also worried about hair loss. I ask my pcp and my nutritionist and they both said make sure after surgery I get the protein and they also mentioned getting enough iron in the form of supplements. I am a hairdresser by trade and doing scalp massages with a good fortified shampoo is a good choice like the above post recommends. Good luck to you! Blessings Tina

Hi Amber, I already have Alopecia and get injections in my scalp every four weeks at the Cleveland Clinic. I have a kookie disease. Blah........Blah.. And there are other products that I also have to use. After surgery(RNY) your body goes thru massive changes.... There was nothing I could do anymore to save the hair I still had. I learned to be creative with how I styled it. I listened to my Dermatologist and did what I was told. Every time I saw him...he would comment on the most wonderful thing I did for myself (the surgery). He was so excited for me and my future. So I would lose a handful of hair each day.........but now I see a slow down and lots of new baby hairs popping up. I feel so wonderful and almost at 100 lbs lost in such a short time. It was sooooooo worth it. gayle

I started loosing hair 4 1/2 mo out... it has lasted 6 monhs but is slowing down a lot. I was tols to take biotin and zinc by the nurse at my surgeons and to use a Biotin shampoo. GNC has one. My new growth is coming in curlier. That is making styling easier! And I agree... it is all worth it! Enjoy the journey! Peace, Pam
