I'm Pam and I got my surgery date today:-D. I have been fighting with the insurance co. for 2 hard years and I finally won!! So March 7th at noon I go under the knife!!! Anyone in the Dayton area?:help: Pam

Congratulations! I've appealed and appealed and been turned down. I am self-paying for a lap-band. I live in Harrison, Oh but am a REALTOR and visit Dayton sometimes. March 7th...how exciting! Nancy

GIGANTIC CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!! 2 years is a very long time to wait when you want and need something so badly. Great job perservering! I kind of feel very guilty as I read all the posts from people and all the trouble that they had with getting approval. I am so fortunate. I had my consult at the end of Sept 06 and got my approval 2 weeks later. My Dr.'s office told me that I had to have 5 years of weight history, 6 months of a supervised diet and one other piece that I can't remember. Actually all my insurance required to approve ...... have a BMI at least 40 for the past 5 years (or greater than 35 w/ 1 of 5 co morbidities). That's all. I was approved like I said in two weeks. I had a 80/20 PPO option at the time and had not met my Out of Pocket Max so I had to come up with $2400 for the surgery (St. Vincent (Cleveland) requires you to pay your OPM and PAT day). There was just NO WAY possible that I would be able to come up with that before 12/31/2006. I also had to have a sleep test, Upper GI and get my blood pressure down and would not have been able to get all that done and surgery scheduled in 2.5 months. So I changed my insurance as of 01/01/2007, scheduled everything in Dec so that I could get it all done in Jan and I got everything done in three weeks and here I am today.
