Hi All. I'm Amy, in Pataskala. I'm going to an informational meeting in Bowling Green on the 21st regarding lap BPD/DS with Dr. Lane. Any other DSers out there with different surgeon reccommendations? Anyone have have any encouraging words for me? Does anyone know what constitutes proof of morbid obesity for the previous 5 years? I moved to Ohio in 2000, and really didn't get a permanent PCP until 2004. I'm assuming I can still get my records from the Dr I saw for a few times when I got here, showing what my weight was back then. I've been obese for 17 years, but my records from Nebraska were lost when my PCP quit and moved away. I have records from other Doctors (specialists). I have Aetna Select and BPD/DS is covered, which shocked me, but of course there are hoops to jump through. Dealing with the insurance is such a staggering obstacle......

Hi Amy, I don't have much DS knowledge, other than it is a pretty drastic surgery that people seem to have good results from. Here is the DS forum link in case you haven't visited it before: http://obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/a,messageboard/board_id,5357/ Good luck! Darlene

I don't know much about the DS part of your post, but Dr. Lane and his staff are AWESOME. I am in the process of getting started for RNY and my friend just had her RNY done 3 weeks ago. Dr. Lane is great and his staff is too. That was a real comfort to me. We both have had a lot of questions and they really help you out. They refer you to other specialists that know what to do and how to write it up for insurance purposes. My advise, calm down and take a deep breath...ask Dr. Lane (or his partner Amy) any questions you have. They will help you. There is no such thing as a dumb question. In one week, my friend lost 23 pounds. Her next appointment isn't till the 16th and I can't wait to hear where she's at. Things will be okay. Have a great night! Laura

Hi Amy!! I don't have too much info on the DS, I had a VSG...kind of the prelude to the DS!! I would suggest going to the DS board, you'll get great info from helpful people there!! I know some of Dr. Lane's patients are there too. Welcome to the boards!!

Hi Amy, I had the DS with Dr. Rita Anderson in Kettering OH. I don't know much about Dr. Lane, but if you post out on the DS board, I'm sure you'll find some references. If you click on the forums link at the top, you'll find a message board full of Ds'ers to help answer your questions. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my DS. I've found post-op life to be very easy to live with and the success has been nothing short of miraculous. My recovery was a breeze, too. If you have any other questions I can answer for you about the DS, please don't hesitate to ask! Valerie
