Cleveland Clinic or St. Vincents?
Hi Sylvia,
I had my surgery at St. V's in September. They were excellent and the nurses are top-notch. I would suggest visiting both programs, and decide for yourself. I know lots of people who went to St. V's and none with complaints. I am sure they are both similiar programs, just dont know anyone who went to CCF.
Good luck on your journey,
Michelle
I went through the Northern Ohio Bariatric Center at Parma hospital. My surgeon was Dr. Eyman. His office staff is great! That may be another option for you to consider. My hospital stay was also very good. I had laproscopic RNY on Tuesday, June 13th and was out of the hospital by Thursday, June 15th!
I hate to stir up the pot but there is a 3rd hospital in Cleveland that does lap band!
That is University Hospital. They also have a great pre and post op program! I am not sure about the insurance issue but you can call them and find out. I had my RNY done at UH and did check out St. V's. They did not accept my insurance so that was out. I do think that God directed me to UH. At the time CCF did not do or advertise that they did the RNY procedure....besides my insurance doesn't pay there either.
I hope that I didn't make the decision even harder by throwing in a 3rd option but if your insurance pays at UH I would definetly go there. They did get there accreditation as being a "Center of Excelence". One of a few hospitals in Ohio that are. Yes, St. V's and CCF are too! Isn't it great that we really can't go wrong with our choices here?!

I am having my surgery at St. V on the 28th and so far have been 100% happy with the way they have treated me. It is a Center of Excellence, not sure if CC is. I did lot's of research and found St. V to be rated one of the top bariatric hospitals in the country. The head surgeon, Dr. Schriber (who's doing mine) is a pioneer in bariatric surgery. Knowing that they went through the rigorous task of becoming a COE and their high level of positive outcomes helped me make my choice.
Best of luck to you!
Yes CCF is a Center of Excellence, I will be traveling 600+ miles from Iowa to Have Dr. Schauer do my Surgery, I had a wonderful experience with everyone I have had contact with. The informational meeting was great, it answered every possible question I had before I could ask it, including Insurance, nutrition and after care.
