Trouble losing weight Original Post by Loraine May at 11:06 PM PST on 01/28/2007 Byesville, OH - RNY (05/06/2005) - Dean J. Mikami, M.D. I have been eating right and hitting the gym every day.. But I am not losing a pound. And I think I might have stumbled onto something today. I have Cardiomyopathy and Cardiomegally. I have been in and out of failure over the years. .But with the weight loss my Doc felt I could be taken off the lasix and diovan. I notice when I am on the treadmill with my heart monitor on my resting heart rate is in the 40 ish range. When I have the treadmill on max incline and hitting it for 45 mins at 5 mph, my heart rate will not go above 81. I was looking at the guide on the treadmill listing target heart rates for age groups and they list: maximum fat burn at 130 and aerobic at 148. Am I not burning fat and getting any good out of my workout since I cant get my heart rate up past 81... I am getting very depressed over this and wonder what my next step should be??? Would this at rest heart rate also slow my metabolic rate down as well. I am not gaining but sure not losing. The workouts keep my muscles toned so I know they are doing some good. But is it good enough to help with the weight loss. HELP Frustrated In Ohio Laura

Laura, My heart rate is just like yours. I have a weak heart muscle. I never thought about that. Im sure we are still burning calories. I get so light headed when i stand up quick. or dont eat. I know what you mean. When i did my stress test it took me forever to get my heart up there. I think it is kind of good. I dont know. I do know im always light headed because i to am in the 40sh range alot of times. Ask your card Barb Hugs

Barb, I have been so depressed over this and litteraly threw my scale away today and sat and cried. I have been eating good lean proteins, low carbs, No carbonated beverages of any kind not even diet. Doing a good 1 and a half hour work out every day. Walking 20,000 steps per shift at work. But not a pound off. Sometimes I am so afraid that I am going to wake up and be 340 again.. I am going to make some phone calls in the morning and see if I need to have a work up done on my heart. Call my WLS Doc and get in with the nutritionist and see if they can see if there is anything i am doing wrong. I am keeping a fitday food journal and should be seeing some pounds come off. Is it possible my body is just done and likes this weight.. God I hope not.. Thanks for reaching out.. Laura

Laura, How long have you been stalled?? I stalled for about 9 weeks only 3 onths after surgery - Just had to keep the faith and do the right things - eventually the scale started moving again. I'm still down 157 pounds in under 10 months Are you getting enough calories and are you getting a reasonable amount of sleep - both things can stop your loss . Just a few ideas. Cathy
