First Fill - on liquids again??? WHY?!
I just had my first fill this morning and was really looking forward to lunch - I wanted to see if I had any restriction yet. Then the nurse handed me a piece of paper that said - LIQUID DIET for the next 3-5 days. WHAT?! Then the nurse said " don't worry, it''s only for a day or two." Now I'm starving because the soup is going straight through me. Well...what is it a day, 2? 3? Why are we put back on liquids again? What is the purpose???
Hi Carrie,
I am sure that is so frustrating!! I didn't have the lapband but my Mom did on December 4th by Dr Curry. She has had 2 fills and after both she was restricted to liquids for 1 day and then pureed the next and then back to her normal diet. I am not positive but I think the main reason is that there is swelling after a fill and you have to take it easy for a couple of days to let the swelling go down. I apologize if this is not accurate but I thought that is what she told me. Hang in there, you can do it.

Carrie,
You need to follow what your surgeon recommends obviously, but we do liquids for 24 hours, mushies for 24 hours, then soft solids. The reason is to give yourself time to ease into your new fill. You do not know how tight it will be and if you start off with a piece of chicken and it gets stuck it could cause problems.
