Hello I am New
I have been reading over your post and am nervous as I am sure all of your were when you bean your journey.First of all you can read all my problems on my profile, and I have more then the profile..LOL..I am a Dialysis patient in great need to loose weight for a transplant among all the other reasons to loose, another patient had the gastric bypass two years ago and is doing well now, I saw a picture of her before and she does not look the same at all. I have had friends who have had it done years ago, one with not so good results, and 20 years later is still fighting complications, I know medicine has came a long ways since then, I plan on going to the classes as soone as they start at Allegany Hospital and as you can see who the doctor is, can anyone tell me if you have used him, I know of the patient at the dialysis center and her sister and some that I read about on his site. I really need some incoragement right now, my niece had the lap band done and she keeps telling me what I am gonna do is not safe at all, I have another friend begging me not to do it, but as i am I will not live very long so I feel it is the right thing right now for me. i have lived in Texas all my life and moved here 5 years ago and been married 4 years to my wonderful husband who I met on line nad has been there for me through a stroke, failing kidneys, now he wants to be here for me through this. Looking for friends to help me along the way. Did I mention that I am Cajun and yep crazy as one too:-o

Sue, Welcome! I have some idea what you are up against as I know a lady with most of the same problems you have - only she is younger. Hey, go for it, as long as you are healthy enough for surg. just make sure you know about the risks, maybe find a Dr. that does a lot of bariatrics. You have a lot to gain. Good luck, Doug
Thank you Doug for the welcome and I have reserched the doctor very well and can't wait to meet him, he has done alot of them and specializes this in his field at the hospital in Pittsburg, he is Joseph J. Colella, MD
Director, Division of Bariatric Surgery
Assistant Professor, Surgery, Drexel University College of Medicine
so as far as being at ease with him, I am, it is just all the rest as I am going to begin to find out. Sue
Welcome to the forum Sue...I'm not Cajun...but I'm a nutty Okie...lol Sounds like you've been through an awful lot...I wish you so much luck..and will keep you in my prayers. My granddaughter is a transplant recipient. She had a heart transplant at 2 months old. She's 15 months now..and doing WONDERFUL....
Wishing you all the luck in the world...
Sherrie
Thanks so much, I just got a date for the class on March 8th, that gives us plenty of time for the weather to get better and safer driving for us, my DH is completly deaf so I think this will be a good time for us to travel to Pittsburgh, it only last from 10 to 12:30. I hope this is enough time for me to learm enough, I have still been reading and trying to read all profiles that I can, to learn all I can. I wanted to share a quote from Shad Irelandwho also had kidney failure, went through many things in his life to get to be an Iron Man. I think I will try to live by this.Sue
"Realize that you are more than your diagnosis and your perception will begin to change. Realize that you have goals and dreams, ask questions, seek answers, and strive to achieve, your world will transform right before your eyes." Shad Ireland 07/04
Hi! And glad to meet you too, I am getting more interrested in that sleave the more i read about it. I would love to hear from ya'll that have had it and are happy with it, and do you know if medicare pays for that.My DH has kids tht live in Georgia, we were gonna move there once but DH decided not to, Wa.. it would of been closer to Texas where my family live.i don't know Ohiop hardly at all, I got sick right after I moved here so it is hard for me to make friends except for the dialysis center, they are like family to me.
