Hello everyone, my name is Sharles I'm a 49 year old 453 lbs. obese woman. I've only been a member here for about two weeks but I visit every day. I'm at the point where I'm just tired of everything, I don't sleep because it hurt to try to get up whenn I lay in the bed, so I sleep on the sofa recliner. I don't go anywhere, don't won't to go anywhere, my family tries to get me to go to the movies, shopping or out to eat ( I really won't do that I feel like people are watching me ). I posted on here and some kind ladies gave me some very useful info. so on the 27th of this month I'm going to a seminar at Middletown Regional Hospital (anyony familar with this place). I don't know which surgery I would like to have, some people I know that has had the Rouxen y gastric say they have problems with ulcers and while reading on the forum here I see people talking about getting 2,3,4 refills with the Lap-Band (what's that). I'm really confussed. I have enjoyed the forum, it gives me something to do and also let me know tha I'm not alone it this fight. Thanks for listening.

Middletown Regional Hospital has an excellent reputation especially their bariatrics. A lap band involves a silicone ring around the stomach that can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the amount of saline in the ring. This is what they mean by getting a fill. There is a port that remains under your skin and a needle is inserted to put in or take out saline. From what I understand, with your weight, you'd be a better candidate for the RNY. Sometimes with the higher weights, laprascopic surgeries are not able to be done. Which doctor are you looking into? Dr Derrick Martin has an excellent rep and has privelages at MRH. He was my 2nd choice, but Dr. Trace Curry is closer to me and has a excellent rep as well. Plus he has done my friend and she is doing great. Lori

Oh and one other thing, if you decide on the lap, try contacting Dr Curry. He has done laps on folks with BMI's up to 85. He mentions in one of his posts that surgeons with a lot of laporoscopic experience are more comfortable with doing laps on those at the higher end of the weight scale. Good luck and let me know what you decide. Lori

Hello, Since you are in Cincinnati you might also want to tale a look at the 'butterfly network' web site. wlsbutterflynetwork.org/ I think several people there have used Dr Curry, and they can give you other Doctors as well. Nothing wrong with Middletown but I'm just trying to give you suggestions a little closer to home. If you want go a little farther north there is also Kettering/Sycamore Hospital, and Miami Valley Hospital. There are a lot of GREAT docs in the Cincinnati, Middletown, Kettering, Dayton area, I'm sure with a little reasearch you'll find the right one for you. Here's a link of docs in Ohio http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/professionals/showdocs-all.php?State=OH Good Luck, Robin

Sharles, Welcome! Whatever you and Your Dr. decide on, it's all good! I'm happy w/RNY, others are not. Just make sure you know the risks and benefits of each procedure. ( I did have an ulcer that healed nicely) WLS has given me a second chance at a healthy life, and I hope it can do the same for you. Doug
