BMI to high for Lap RNY?

I was really hoping to get the Lap RNY but I was told recently that I would have to have a BMI of 60 or lower to be considered for it. Is this true for all surgeons? Are there any Ohio surgeons willing to do Lap RNY on someone like me who has BMI of 68? meesa

Melissa, I haven't done an open RNY in 2 years and I've done BMI's as high as 85. You just have to find a surgeon with lots of laparoscopic experience. If you tell me where you are I might be able to give you some guidance. Dr. C

Definatly check out Dr Zografakis at summa hospital in akron !!! he is awesome has done lap on high BMI mine was probably close to 60 in july when he did mine and i have done great no complications no food issues and down 100 pounds

I was in the process of getting my date before Ifound out I am pregers. Any way Dr Schumacher is who I was seeing and My index is above 60. He never minched lap ryn being a no matter of fact one of the hospitals he uses hs a table that goes to a 3o degree angle to lessn the chances of going to open.
