I posted a few days ago about not having any luck with medicaid and that my pcp had left her practice. Well I think I am just gonna start over. I don't have a surgeon. So if anyone could suggest one in columbus or southern ohio that takes medicaid, I would appreciate it. Also, what other things should I be doing? I really need to get approved for this surgery. Thank you.

There is always the highly regarded, excellent, very loved, highly recommended, caring, and talented - Dr Trace Curry!!!!! And he isn't too bad to look at either, just don't tell him I said that. Good luck Sharyn

Good luck to you..I'm sorry you've had so much trouble...you might also call the Ohio Department of Insurance..(ODI) 1-800-686-1578 And maybe they can give you a heads up of which surgeons in the area take Medicaid. I'm going through Mount Carmel, since I work for MC...and will have Dr. Choban as my surgeon...she comes HIGHLY recommended from different people I've talked to. I've met with her and she's awesome....I really like her personality..and she has extensive experience with this surgery. Bariatric surgery is her expertise. Check with Medicaid and see what criteria they want you to meet. Good luck to you!

Hi ya all. Thanks for the replies. However, I called Dr. Curry's office today and was informed that they do not take patients with medicaid. I also called Holzer in Gallipolis and was told they did not accept it either. Whats up with this? I called medicaids hotline and spoke to a really rude lady who told me she couldnt find any record of me applying for weight loss surgery. She then told me 'well ya know, some people want to have the surgery that don't need it. They don't want to try to lose the weight. People use this as a shortcut." I said "look lady, I weigh 400 lbs, i can't walk and i can't breath...I think I could use the 'shortcut'. So she is having her superviser call me back within 24-48 hours. It seems I am finally brave enough to have this surgery, and there are all sorts of road blocks. Who could I contact to find out whats going on?
