Revision - looking for doc, Cincinnati areao
Hi all. I'm new to this board, and had posted this on the main forum before I realized there was an Ohio board. I had open RNY in Jan 2002. I lost about 100 pounds, then proceeded to regain about 65 pounds, so I'm basically where I started, never even getting close to my goal weight, and never getting under 200 pounds. Now I'm at the point where I can eat a significant amount. If that isn't bad enough, I also think I have a stretched stoma as I am constantly hungry. It is real hunger, I have made myself wait to eat so I can be sure. I am currently trying to diet, just like in the old days, but it is so hard when you are hungry all the time. I'm tracking calories and weight on sparkpeople.com just to try to keep myself in check.
Basically, I'm ready to look into a revision. I've been told of the DS and researched it's success and so far, that looks good to me, though I'm not ruling out anything at this point. I really would just like to get to a more normal weight. I'm currently 255, at 5'6". I have BCBS PPO insurance. Honestly, I'm not really sure how to get started. My PCP here is a quackster (I miss my KY PCP) and actually suggested I get braces to help with weight loss. Hello, I HAD braces when I was 15. Anyway, back to the point. I would love to know how to get started and if I will have to go through all the insurance things that I did before to get approved, or if this would be any easier. Not that I had a hard time before, I didn't. One other thing I would love to know is whether I would be able to have a laprascopic surgery this time around. I really, really do not want to be opened up again, if possible. If anyone can help me, or has any suggestions, I would be SO happy to hear from you.
Thanks!
Hi Jill
Not to steer you in any direction, but......with already having an RNY, it would be MAJOR -MAJOR surgery to have a DS. You would have to your bypass reversed as the DS utulizes the actual stomach and not a pouch.
I would contact Dr Curry, if he can't help you - which I'm sure he could - he would point you in the right direction. He's awesome!
Good Luck
Have you considered having the lap band placed around your current RNY pouch? I have seen it discussed before on the revision boards, and the lapband would offer you the chance of lifetime adjustments...just thought I would give you another option to consider...BTW..Dr. Curry is the greatest! If my daughter needed surgery, I would trust him with it in a heartbeat!
