Very Lengthy Process
I'll weigh in on the opposite side here. I think this is too long and way too many hoops. I went to Barix in Groveport, started the process in late July, had my insurance approval at beginning of August, and could have had my surgery end of September, but I wanted to wait until the holidays because I teach and wouldn't need to take much time off. Barix was wonderful!! I can call any time of day and speak directly to a nurse on the floor or a doctor if I have a question or need anything. They were awesome when I was in the hospital, very caring and compassionate. This is their speciality, and they are very good at it. I did look into many other programs throughout the years and this was the best for me. They did do preop appointments and I met with the surgeon a couple of times beforehand. But basically, they know this works for those of us with weight issues, and our health is better off because of it, so why delay something that is beneficial. Best of luck to you, this is a huge undertaking and I just wanted to share my two cents. Bridget
Bridget you are funny..."weigh in", good pun.
I saw my surgeon yesterday. He says that he guesses I can expect surgery within a month to one and one half months at most. The issue I am having now are ulcers. (Read my ulcer post.) We'll see how that test comes out.
I agree that some of this stuff is long-winded and there really isn't much need for more than one psych consult if there is no mental illness, and I won;t even go into what I think about my nutritionist right now! (She's nice, but I think she should be more concerned with helping me to plan for after surgery eating rather than trying to get me to "diet" right now.) I undertand I will be on some sort of liquid diet prior to the surgery, so why must I be losing weight now? I hear it is to prove that I am "goal oriented". Well, crap, if I could lose weight on diets, I suppose I wouldn;t be here!!!!! -Karen
