Neg talk at work
Jan,
I hear confession is good for the soul.
I felt the same way about the surgery until I educated myself. I realize she is in nursing and should know better but if I felt that way 185 pounds ago, I can imagine what someone who not only does not need the surgery but also has no reason, or in her case desire, to research must feel.
There are so many conflicting media reports on the surgery she likely has selective hearing. At this time, I hope you are able to filter out the negative and walk away with the support you need and deserve from those coworkers and friends who are supportive. Best of luck to you and I hope that she sees how well you do and that helps her be more supportive to the next person in her life who has similar struggles.

Sounds like the people at your work need something to do rather than rip on you about your surgery! Anyone that has NEVER been overweight has NO idea what is is like and should keep their mouth shut, period. Tell them if they don't like it, don't have it done! It's YOUR choice! I'm assuming that your are a grown adult that can make rational decisions for herself, correct? If you weren't the psych eval would've weeded you out...(that was a joke). So far, ALL of the people in my office are very happy for me. If they weren't, well then poo on them! I'm a firm believer that the only one who should be doing any judging is in heaven and folks at your work or anywhere else aren't qualified for that! I don't mean to be so harsh, but that REALLY pushes my buttons!
Yep, those people definitley exist. I had the joy of working with one who managed to lose 85 lbs with diet and exercise, so she was bitter about me getting my DS and especially all of the encouragement I got from others at work. Try not to let it bother you, and just don't discuss your surgery with her and it can be work as usual.
