Having a hard time eating
I had my RNY done on 11/27. The first couple of weeks were not too bad as far as eating was concerned although now I am having a really hard time. Nothing sounds good to me and when I try to eat something I can sometimes chew a few times but then I feel like I am going to be sick and cannot swallow it. Nothing taste good to me and the thought of it makes me ill. Did anyone else experience this and if so did it ever get better. I never in a million years would have thought that food would have been repulsive to me. When I have tried to talk to some family members and friends they think this is wonderful and will help me loose the weight but I know that it can't continue this way and is not healthy. I am taking my vitamins daily and have no problems with that but I can't seem to get much protein in.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday!!

Tracy,
This is very common in bypass patients, I often hear that in the first few months after surgery you have to almost force yourself to eat because of a complete lack of appetite. Don't worry, it will not last forever - usually around the 3rd month the appetite starts to come back a little.
Dr. C
Tracy,
I agree with Dr. C. I felt the same way and wondered if I'd ever be able to eat more than a few bites of anything again. You will! Try to always do protein first. I found that "soft" proteins worked better (things like cottage cheese, cheese, refried beans, and Carb Countdown milk (chocolate became my best friend and I'd mix protein powder with it)
Take your vitamins and drink and try to get in protein. It will be OK.
-166 lbs. since 12/05/05 Goal: -200 lbs. by 6/2007.
Thanks so much for the input. A big part of my problem is that nothing taste like it used to, actually the taste is what is making me sick. I put something in my mouth and the first couple of chews is ok but once it is has been in my mouth a few seconds it gags me and I can't swallow it because it taste disgusting. I hope this goes away!!
Thanks again for your input and congratulations on being so successful with your weight loss!!
Happy Holidays
