Medical Mutual Diet
I have been on my six month dr surpervised diet for Medical Mutual. I have been following the low carb diet faithfully and exercising. And guess what??? I have lost a total of 8 pounds. I only have one more month left and I'm afraid that I'm not going to lose enough to please the insurance company. I'm on 1000 calories and my PCP said that he could have told me and the insurance company that I wouldn't be losing much because that is one of the reasons why I need RNY. Anyone have any comments? Has anyone ever been told that there was a magic number of pounds that needed to be lost for approval?
They don't really have a number of pounds that you need to lose to fullfill the supervised weight loss. They just need documentation of the 6 months....what you did...and such....
I did lose 70 pounds before my surgery and was very worried that they would say that I didn't need it because I was successfully losing on my own!
Good luck. Be persistant with Medical Mutual. Call daily once they submit your package. Make sure to ask them....what is the status of my case....claim number (which they will give you). Take down who you talked to and what they said. Also the date and time that you spoke to them. If you find one that is very helpful ask for them by name. They really were very helpful when I was going through the approval process.
Good luck!

I just finished my 12 week wlp. I lost and gained the same 4 lbs. the whole time. At least it was a lost at the end. But, what I wanted to comment about was your calorie count. They had me on a 1400 cal diet and there wasn't very much there although I managed to eat less that 1400 calories. They told me I wasn't eating enough, that my body was probably storing calories and we shouldn't be on anything less than 1200.
I'm going through OSU Bariatrics and they didn't give me a "magic number", they just wanted to see a gradual weight loss. The hardest thing for me was to stop drinking my McDonald's cokes. Sometimes I replaced it with coffee but most of the time I just drank my water. I've gotten used to it.
Hopefully they will approve my weight loss and I won't have to attend any longer. Good luck with your program.

I too am on the Medical Mutual physician supervised diet. I am in my last month with it ending the 28th of this month. I've lost and gained the same 2 to 5 lbs. I spoke to a very helpful person by the name of Sandra at Medical Mutual and she said that I didn't have to show any weight loss per say, just that I was on it with my doctor for a continious (sp?) 6 months. Hope this helps. Good Luck
Hello!
I also have medical mutual and I lost a total of 5 pounds during the six month diet. I was denied the first time and wrote a long letter appealing the denial. They reviewed my case and reversed the original decision. Don't give up if you are denied. Fight for it. That is what I did and it worked. If you would like a copy of the letter I sent I would be happy to forward it to you. email me at [email protected]. Good luck!
