Hello Everyone, Well I only made it 36 hrs without a smoke, I am so dispointed in myself I can't hardly stand it. I just don't know why I cant kick this habit. I am wondering if anyone here has had surgery at OSU and had Dr Needlman what does he do to test for nicotien? Urine ?blood? Just wondering how much time I will have. It says in my packet that they test but don't say what kind of test and yeah it matters cause I spoke to people in the lab today at the hosp I work at and it makes a difference if it is blood or urine, I know I will have to do it soon but I just cant do it today, It was so rough, People that dont smoke just dont understand this addication, and the hand to mouth thing I crave, I did find a site today tha offers "a fake cigg" that you actully inhale(no Nicotien or tar ect) but it releases a food grade additive in 4 flavors that one can use with the patches or gum to help with the hand to mouth addiction and the need to "puff" or "take a drag" I am going to order it and give it another try, Just wanting some info from someone who has had "the test" to see how much time I have left. Thanks for listening to me ramble on here I am just so dispointed in myself at this point I need to vent. Thanks

Hello, I must say I do understand. I am pre-opt. And a former smoker. It was very hard for me to quit too. I am one of those people who actually enjoyed the whole ritual of smoking. I gotta tell you tho, you CAN quit. It is NOT easy. But it is possible. I quit cold turkey 7 years ago. I didn't use a patch or gum. But what I did do was PRAY. A lot! I am so serious. If you REALLY want to quit, no matter what method you use, you can do it. Prayer was my method of choice. And it worked. The first 2 weeks are the WORST. But after that, each day gets a little easier. I also ate alot of mints, since I smoked menthol cigarettes I was missing that menthol along with the nicotine. Hence the the mints, I also ate jolly ranchers. You have no idea how much better you will feel when you finally kick the habit. YOU CAN DO THIS. Hope this helps you, be blessed...

Ms Kat, thaks for the reply, I am just so darn mad at myself today for caving in, I feel like this little thing rules my life. I mean it seemed like every minute today it was in the front of my mind, I hated it. I know they say people try anywhere from 2-6 times before they quit for good, But If I can't quit at least 2 wks before my surgery it will be delayed till I do and I can't stand the thought of that either, and I tried ALL day to remind myself of that but the urge was to strong and won out. Yes I belive that prayer can do ALOT and I might just have to do that again, it has been a while since I have done that, but I do know alot of people that can say a prayer for me too. I would love it if I could just wake up one day and have NO desire or urge to smoke, If God could do that I would be in heaven here on earth. I do belive that through him ALL things are possible, I guess that since i am weak at this I need God to carry me a while, know what I mean. BUt rest assure I will be tring again in a few days, I will keep at it till one day the desire is gone, I just hope it comes before it is to late for my health. I work at a hosp in the Er dept and I see many people come in with coughs and we have to tellthem it is cancer now on their xray reports or the people that have COPD and cant breath from yrs of smoking, one would think that seeing this day in and day out would make one quit right then and there, but for some reason we keep smoking, there is about 10 of us that smoke, we cant smoke at work anymore and thats a good thing in a way I am there 8 to8.5 hrs that I cant smoke and am only home and up 5 hrs till i go to bed so being smokfree at work does help some, funny thing is I don't hardy ever crave them while I am working, but man the minute I get to my car I have that very strong urge to smoke, So please yes pray for me pray that my Mighty God take this addication away to heal me from it's grip. Thanks for you reply Kat please stay in touch.

Miss Jan, You are not a failure by any means. I have never smoked, but food is my addiction that I must fight every day. I dont know if you remember seeing me in the ER at SEORMC but I was usually there once a month before I had my surgery. Barely breathing and having chest pains all the time. Just try to keep in mind the big picture. Not just quiting smoking, and the loss of the nicotine. But all the positive things that are going to happen to you when you get over this mountain. And I am sure its a steep mountain. I pray that the good Lord helps to carry you over and you can kick this habit. Once its out of your system you are on your way to a new and better life. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and if you need someone to talk to I will be here. Big Gentle hugs. Lots of Love and healing prayers coming your way Good Luck Jan, Laura

Thank You Ms Laura, I really do truly want to get over this, I just don't have much will power alot like my eating style I guess. I just feel so terrible about it like I will never break free completely from these things. I regret the day I ever started, cause had I known it would take over my life in such a manner I would never of smoked the 1st one. I will try again in a couple of days and will contiune till I succed. Do you go to the support group at the hosp? I will be going next week to the meeting And I am hoping to find some peace there and hopfully some people to to talk to about my emotions lately. Our meeting is on the 13th in the amos/deddish room @6p if you would like to come if you dont already have a group. Thanks for your support I always feel a little better once I come on here, good for the soul I think. Wel need to get ready for work, hope to talk with you again, Thank YOu for everything

Jan, When I quit smoking, I used the patch for a few weeks. I also made up rules about smoking before starting on the patch. I wouldn't allow smoking in the car or in the house. I had to go outside away from the building to smoke. I wore all the clothes that had burn holes in them to remind myself of another bad aspect of smoking. I was able to quit but did try one final cigarette about 8 weeks later - it didn't even taste good anymore! Within the last couple of years I find that I cannot be around the smell of smoke anymore. I thought that would never happen to me. Good Luck in your journey.

Hi Jan, I am new to the OHIO board but wanted to encourage you not to give up. I to quite through prayer only. It took me a long time of praying though. 3 years I cryed out to God to deliver me from cigs and one night at church after praying again, when I walked out I never picked up another one and did not even have a craving. So I did receive a miracle and you can to. God is no respector of person, what he does for one he can do for another. Hang in there and I will pray for ya also. Blessings

So they TEST you for smoking??????? Oh no ... I was going to quit that morning ... lol. How far in advance do you have to quit? I quit cold turkey for 2.5 years and went back to it when my Mom got sick and died about 1.5 years ago. I know I can do it ... but don't want to until I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO ... lol. I ate lots of hard candy, gum, mints. Brushed my teeth ALOT and rinsed with mouth wash several times a day. Sleeping a lot helped too ... lol (can't smoke then). Distancing yourself from the "smell" helps too. I do not smoke in the house. The patch did not help me. You have to WANT to quit and you have to be READY. As some of the other ladies said ... prayer helps. Good luck. You can do it

honey 35 hours is an accomplishment...just try for 38 the next time and keep increasing it until you can go for two days...then you can just quit ....i had to quit a few years back because of bronchitis. popcorn helped me a lot. no salt no butter just plain popcorn not really very fattening at all. and it gave me something to do with my mouth and hands. or until you get your fake cigarette use a half of a straw to chew on or suck on. it helps too. dont be discouraged just go on with trying. it will work.
