Research Help Needed

It's been a while since I posted on here, because I had almost given up all hope when I found out my employer has an exclusion in our health insurance plan for weight loss treatment of any kind, especially surgery. I'm still without much hope, but right now I'm in a fighting mood! I actually received a follow-up call today from my company's VP who is the Director of Benefits. I had spoken to an HR Relationship manager and had asked her to have the Director call me to try to address my concerns since she was not much help. I was amazed that he actually called me at all, much less within a week of my meeting with the Relationship manager. Anyway, long story short, the Director of course blew a bunch of smoke up my rear (sorry if I just offended anyone!), and now I am looking for resear*****luding reputible medical studies, on the benefits of the surgery. I am very reluctant to believe the lines he fed me about the insurance company's doctors and the "unbiased" studies they have based their findings on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Who knows? Maybe one day we can combat the ignorance and prejudices about obesity and weight loss surgery so that it is more widely covered by more companies' insurance plans! (Maybe I'm dreaming now, but so what?!) If anyone knows of any good sources for this type of research or already has access to some studies, please, please, PLEASE let me know. Thank you so much in advance!! Angela

Hi angela, I see you have Dr. Curry listed as your doc on your little ticker there. Maybe shoot off an Email to him about this. Im sure his office can lead you to plenty of studies. I would suggest looking in professional journals for this info. Do you have any university hospitals/medical teaching hospitals near you? They usually have professional libraries. At the hospital I work at, they will even run the search for you, you just need to pick up the articles. I think even public libraries even have the New England Journal of Medicine. Maybe look in Gastroenterlogy journals...those used by GI docs. Just some thoughts to set you on your way. Happy researching! Lauri
