Does medicare cover WLS?
yes it does .. you have to look for a doctor that is covered and your hospital has to have a certain paper on file. I have medicare and I am in the process. I called medicare to see what their requirements are..... you have to have 2 problems (at the least) that is on the list some are a BMI of 35 or more, sleep apnea, diabeties, High Blood pressure...... . I dont know what area you are in but if you go into the part to find a surgeon on there info page it usually says what isurance they take.
Hope that helps.
Yes Medicare covers it I just had mine on May 31st of this year BUT they just changed it in February of this year they now say you have to go to a hospital that is accredited by the ABS. There are 4 hospitals in Ohio they are in Dayton, Cinncinatti, Columbus and Cleveland. I belive it's Ohio State, And I know it's St. Vincent Charity in Cleveland cause thats where I had mine. I'm not sure what the Dayton and Cincy ones are. Please if you have any questions and I may be able to answer them just let me know. From what my doctor told me if you have medicare and medicaid as a secondary they don't have to get any kind of prior authorization from medicaid. Also with medicare as long as you meet at least 2 things on there criteria list such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, heart problems then your in, there is no prior authorization required from Medicare
