Hello Everyone, well today I got my letter for my NUT and Phycs dates, and all the Info. I am a little scared though, They want 5 yrs! of weight histroy and supervisised Deits, I have only had 1 with my Dr, it was the Redux pills and then they took them off the market, and I had a few meetings with the diet nurse at the hospital, I am confused to what all it is actually they want from my Dr. and I am afraid that if I am confused about it so will he and not know what all to send them and that this will cause delays. I have tired many diets over the yrs but they were ones I did my self do they count? Are they just wanting a record of my office visits and weights for the past 5 yrs form my Dr? I have been to him for many things over the past few yrs and I do have comorbid abilitys, like high BP high Cholcostrol, high trigly,2 heart caths one with a stent, but I am wondering if this will be enough, I was afraid to even open the letter, I am so afraid that if I would not be approved by the team at OSU, I will not know what to do. Can anyone tell me if they were still approved with only a couple of supervisied docoumented attempts. I am kinda of depressed now that I have this letter and info that I must get now, what if it is not enough for them, then what? Thanks for listening.

Hi there, It really depends on your insurance on what they require. I called mine before I even went to my info meeting, this is where I got my packet to feel out. Now I am in a different area of Ohio than you so I am not sure of how the practice you have chosen operates. I had only had one Doctor supervised and 1 dietation followed. List everything like if you've tried adkins or slimfast over the counter supplements. When you sit don't and start it will all just spill out it wont be as hard as you think it is I remebered back 18yrs worth of diet attemps. When I called my insurance I asked them what was the qualifications to get approved ..... I had to have 2 problems that were on there list. Depending on your insurance requires I felt better when I knew what they expected. With your heart, BP, probs you would think it shouldnt be a prob..your body mass index has to be over 35 I believe and it will show in your docs records your ups and down with weight and that you need help and xtra tool to do this. I hope I have helped ya ... I can feel where you are coming from I have just finished my packet and mailed it in I am just waiting for my first apt to be scheduled. Good luck, God bless Linda

Hi jan, I was told last week by my insurance that they require 2 years of weight history, they told me that means I would have to go to my doctor every month for 2 years to weight in and he would have to have notes stating what diet I was on and if I had lost or gained any weight. I am not waiting 2 more years for surgery so I am going to self pay, its going to cost around 17,500 but it is worth it. If I were you I would call your insurance and ask them if they need 5 years, month to month docoumentation. Good luck.

Thanks for the Info guys, I do have a high BMI it is 43, They lady where I work who does our insurance (human resourses) says I meet the criteria for medical necessity she is our Medical consultant,I am told our insurance requires a 12 week Diet conseling program, in which I am already doing. Of course everytime I go to see my Dr, he records my weight and it is usually mentioned during my appt that I need to get the weight down. I Did 1 weight loss when Him in 97 but 4 mos later the FDA pulled Redux off the market so I could no longer do the prescribed meds, So I tried to contiune on my own, which was another failure. I did list all of my attemts, I did adkins, slimfast low fat -no fat , OTC pills, but I did'nt go see my Dr every month on these, I would just mention to him if I was there for something that I was dieting again and was not having the best of results again. I did have 3 visits with our dietician in 03 also, I am just now so stressed that someting will not be in place. I have pleanty of comorbidabiltys high BP, high chcol, High Trig,Servere GERD, 2 heart caths borderline dietbetic. So If my insurance covers this type of surgery all but about 3000.00 of it, should I still have problems? I have Medben Insurance from my work. Just so stressed here, seems like the harder I try the more blocks I find, Heck if this was something I could do on my own I would'nt be asking for a surgery GEEZ!

Hi Jan, OSU wasn't happy with my weight history I turned in either. Most of what I did was Weigh****chers. I did some Jenny Craig, Meridia, and a long time ago, diet pills. That is why they required the 12-week supervised wlp. I'm in week 7 of that and not doing real good either. I just wonder how many more hoops I will have to jump through. Good luck, Peggy

Peggy, I too have not done real well, I have only lost about 5 pds so far, I am in my 4th week, I just can not seem to get my butt moviated to go to the gym. I work all day on my feet and they hurt so much, the last thing I feel like doing is going and walking a mile on the tread mill. I am sure I gained a few pds back over the holiday, I go thursday to see my Nut so I will see what the scale reads this week, If I could lose alot on my own I wouldn't be having the surgery.I will just keep trying to plug along. Glad to hear from you too. Hugs Jan

Please know that there is a method to the madness. OSU and others just want to make sure they have uncovered every stone for your safety and to get you approved for the surgery. They are on your side. As for walking. I can't stress enough the importance of walking before surgery. Your getting your body prepared for the stress of the surgery. And post-op while in the hospital you gotta get up and start moving as soon as the doctor says to. You decrease your risk for blood clots and pneumonia. I was told to walk and wear a Pedometer and work toward 10,000 steps a day. It took some work and effort on my part. I had to make the commitment to myself to make lifestyle changes and remember the surgery is just a tool. Thanks for reminding me "I gotta get off my butt today" Hugs, Gayle
