Mind over Matter

I'm in day 3 of my pre-op diet. Yesterday was soooooo hard, but I figured it would be. Being home from work, the normal weekend down time, etc. Let's just say I was not a pleasant person yesterday. I think too that my body may have just figured out what I was doing and the mind over matter arguement started . I'm hoping that after today it gets a bit easier. People who go through fasts say that the first 3 days are the worst due to the cleansing crisis. However, I am getting some "food", so it's not a true fast. Just to take my mind on a different route, I'm going to have hubby get the Christmas stuff out of storage and we'll put some stuff up. If I keep busy I'm okay. The down time (and the TV food commercials) get to me. Can't wait to get back to work tomorrow. I would almost guarantee that I am not the first person to experience this, so I know you know how I feel. One thing is for sure though, when it comes to this, my mind will not defeat my will. It's too important to me. Tonya

Staying busy is the key. Decorating for Christmas is a great idea. Just remember why you are fasting and it will make it a lot easier to bear. Good luck on your journey. MJ

Tonya, I know it's tough, but hang in there - you can do it!! Think of it as "boot camp", once you're through with it you will be so glad you did and your life will change for the better. Dr. C

Thanks everyone. I stepped on the scale this AM. Just to see if there was a difference since beginning this. I'm down about 3 lbs, which I have to admit, put a smile on my face and made me say a big "YES!!!". Tonya

Dr. Curry, Not sure if you will loop back through prior threads, but your boot camp analogy got me thinking. My hubby is prior active duty Army and is still with National Guard. Boot camp really is the "shock" period (or initial taste) of the military career. They test you to see if you really can do it. You have the option to quit, but in doing so you never achieve your initial goal and never really get the true sense of what it's about. Then on to AIT where they teach you your specialized skill that you will do for the rest of your military career. The pre-op diet really is the boot camp of WLS. Then the surgery and initial months after are the AIT of WLS. Although the surgery is over, you are still learning, and it will get easier. Thanks for giving me a new way of looking at this. Tonya
