I am in my late 50's and will probably be scheduled in Jan. for my surgery. I read all the post but none addressing anyone having surgery this late in their life. Is anyone around 55 or so plus and had surgery?

I'm only 52 and had surgery in August. I've done wonderfully. No problems. I feel good and am losing weight rapidly. It was the best decision I have made. Dianna

Hi Mary Ellen! I am 57 and hope to have my surgery in February or so. Right now I'm jumping through all of my hoops. You want to talk to a lot of ladies over 50, go to the Over 50 forum. They are a lot of fun. Peggy

Hi Mary Ellen, I was 50 when I had my surgery and did great. My friend had hers at 61 yrs of age - 8 weeks ago! No complications. She is now down 45 lbs and is doing awesome. She exercises daily and follows her doctors advice. I am so proud of her. I agree to look at the 50 plus board. Good luck. Linda 367/179/?

A friend of mine at church had her surgery at age 70! She had to look around for her surgeon and then prove to him that she was a great candidate since he told her that his cutoff age was 60. Well, it is three years later and she has done great. No problems or complications. In fact, you can see her riding her bicycle around the neighborhood on most days!

Hi, I am new to the site and I am having my surgery on November 30, 2006. I am 51 yrs young and am hoping to feel even younger. I know that you are having some concerns about the risks and the advantages of surgery at your age, but the main advantage is to be able to live longer and to be healthier. My name is Patricia and I wish you well and all the luck in the world!

Hello....I'm a male and will be 60 in April. I also have CHF. I still don't know whether they will do my surgery or not. I did meet with a surgeon at Barix in Groveport about a month ago and he said he'll do the surgery if I have all my test's done. I just did a chemical stress test and echo cardiogram Friday. Also my heart doctor did give me the ok a few months ago but he hasn't seen my results yet from the tests I did Friday. That's what I'm waiting on now. I can hardly stand it. I wish they would call and give me the results. If I don't pass then it was all for not. Good luck.... Dave B.
