Sweetie Pie.. You are a normal living breathing human being. Just because your tummy is smaller it is still capable of having hunger. Real human hunger for food. I know every feeling and sensation is new and scary. But you are so new post op that your body is reacting and retaliating all over the place. Just relax and know that you will settle into a new pattern soon. Everything you are feeling and experiencing is NORMAL for YOU.. Every person reacts differently post op, and you are doing fantastic. Just hang in there and know we are rooting for you.. Enjoy those Pureed foods, Refried beans will be your very best friend soon. We love ya sweetie Laura

Maris, I am doing so much better. I feel so much more in control when I am connected with this group. I am back on my protein shakes and really watching my portions. I have pulled off the 5 pounds I have gained back so right now I am where I was 6 weeks ago. And everything will be downhill from here. I would love to be down to my goal weight of 120 by my birthday on April 18th. I know that may not seem like a lot, but the further out post op you are the harder it is to get rid of that weight. I am trying to find someone to share a pool pass with me to the Amerihost. I just cannot afford the $30.00 a month to use the pool, gym and hot tub. They allow 5 people to use the pass, so I am trying to find several folks to go in with me on the pass. I went through a really severe depression early post op because I thought I would be the one person in the universe that didnt lose weight post op. I forgot the 15 pounds of fluid that you gain after surgery that take several weeks to disipate and then the weight loss kicks into high gear. But Maris I was so depressed I wasnt sleeping and became obsessed with researching how to have the surgery undone. I became depressed and suicidal. With the help of these beautiful people here I asked my doc for some antianxiety meds and an antidepressant. I felt no shame in asking for help. And once I got the OVERANXIETY under control, I was finally able to get in touch with the changes my body was going through on a minute to minute basis. My advice to you is keep connected with all of us. Let us help you with your concerns and feel free to call your Doc if you feel things arent right with you. But... Miss Maris. You are doing just fine and will be a Big loser.. Anytime you need me I am here. I dont have all the answers.. I am still looking for them myself. But I am a good listener. Love and Hugs, Your Friend Miss Laura

Hi Maris My best advice - protein, as much as you can drink. Also, i used to call a friend - or anybody. If you start doing something or talking about something else, the strong cravings and feelings of hunger will go away. Also, chew ice. Good luck Sharyn

Thanks hun... I love this website and all my firends BTW you look awesome!!! I will work on the protein. I have been loving hot tea and that seems to curb the cravings a bit. Funny, I used to be a huge coffee drinkier but cant seem to get that down. Today I got to have mashed potatoes wooo hooo!! that did fill me up and tasted soooo good. hugs~ Maris

OMG, Maris!!! I have been hungry as heck every day since I had my surgery on November 3rd. I am craving cheese and salsa and potatoes and today my family came over for the Brown's game and my husband got lunchmeat, cheese and bread and God bless them, they HAD to eat, so they sat and watched the game with me in the Great Room and ATE!!!! I was almost in tears but of course didn't say anything and just had my yogurt smoothie. I think "head hunger" is a bunch of bull. My hunger pangs are in my tummy!! They are always there! But, I know that if I eat I will dump at the "least" and bust my staples at the worst. The Cleveland Clinic insists on a two week pre-op fast, moving to nothing but clear liquids three days pre-op AND a bowel cleanse. After surgery, I am back on the full liquids for two weeks. Some people get pureed foods after one week. I can't believe I am actually looking forward to mushed up meat!! Thanksgiving and Christmas will be real fun as I sit there and mash up my food with my fork. I'm passing on Holiday parties this year. I'm glad we don't get invited to many. I can distract myself by doing whatever I can think of but mostly I am thinking of...food!!! When I went for my post-op check-up last Friday, after all the fasting and stuff, I'd only lost three pounds!! I know now that it's all fluid and gas. The upside is that I bought a really gorgeous dress at David's Bridal that was on sale 50% off. When my daughter was picking out her wedding dress last March I was wandering around the store and saw it hanging there. I was already on my journey to WLS and waiting to get approved. I remember telling my daughter that if I was approved, I was going to buy that dress and wear it next summer, even if I had to wear it to Giant Eagle!!! Hang in there. You are not alone! I've heard that sooner or later we can even eat real food again--just not as much as we did before! That's like dreamland for me, and I hear you--doesn't seem like it will ever get here!!! Love, Joy

Hi there, I just had my first consultation with the surgeon last Friday- so I'm looking at January for my surgery. I'm very excited, but today all I could think about was - what will I do when the cravings kick in? So your post really caught my attention. Seriously- I'm pretty nervous for myself because I can talk myself into anything- like, "just have a tiny bit", "it won't matter", "A little won't kill you". I'm the queen of this! I'm so afraid it will drive me crazy! Good luck with conquering those hunger demons! Stacey

Of course you're feeling hunger. Your stomach is waking up!!! There's a part of your stomach that produces a hormone called ghrelin, which makes you feel hungry.
