I applied for weight loss surgery in March of this year. I have not heard a word from anybody. So I called medicaid and they told me that I needed to call another number, I did that, they told me they couldnt help me. So I called my pcp, she is trying to get to the bottom of this. But I havent heard from her all week. I have a very high bmi--70. And I have diabetes, high cholesterol, joint and muscle aches, and severe depression. I dont see what the big problem is. Am I overreacting or does it take them this long to make a decision? Thanks to all that reply.
Bobbi,
I am sorry to say that it took me almost 2 and a half years to get that all important approval letter in my hand. I had 2 denials and 2 hearings. The best thing to do is keep writing letters.. Giving them updates on your case. New visits to the Dr, new meds, hospital or er visits. This helps to re-affirm your case. I had absolutely no luck contacting the people by phone, but the letters seemed to keep them moving somewhat. Also. Have your PCP Doc send a followup letter stating your continueing compliance with weight loss attempts, worsening symptoms etc. And I found a great source of getting the info to the right person faster was my medicaid caseworker. She helped me greatly and gave me lots of good helpful ideas. If you have any more questions let me know.
Good Luck.. And NEVER give up!!!!

It took me over a year and 5 denials o get Medicaid approval.. Do you have a bariatric surgeon? That's the office that should be calling to see what is happening with your case... Medicaid will tell you NOTHING! I had to do everything through my surgeon's office...And everything took time...From the day I sent my paperwork in for the first time it took 2 1/2 months to get my first denial.. Then I appealed and it took them a few months to set the date... If I were you I would call everyone. Call the doctor that submitted your request for surgery and have them call Medicaid.. Then have them call again in 2 weeks if there's no news... There were a few times when things were at a standstill and it took a phone call to get them going again. Don't worry about being a pain to your doctor...this is your life! Make sure you keep record of everything you are going through now health wise. Get a read out of all your medications and what it costs per month and per year to take with you in case you are denied and have a hearing....Email me if you need any more information or have any more questions... I finally had my surgery on Sept 12 and it feels so good to be on this side of the Medicaid thing.. I know how hard it is to wait and hear nothing..
