More Six Month Diets

I was at St. Vincent's yesterday having my consultation with the surgeon. I am currently in month four of my six month diet required by the insurance. I mentioned something about it to my Case Specialist and she said that she sees most of the insurance companies starting to require this and wouldn't be surprised to see it become mandatory by all soon. She said that the insurance companies have started it mostly to have an official record as to how committed you are. I know that when I found out I would have to do ANOTHER diet I was really discouraged at first, but now am glad I have had to do this. It has given me time to get my body prepared, my mind in the right place and to have time to make sure of why I am doing this. I guess for once the insurance companies do know what they are doing. So for all of the others out there having this requirement -- hang in there -- it goes faster than you think. It also gets you into the right frame of mind.

That is exactly what the surgeons office told me yesterday. She said they are not looking for you to lose "x" amount of weight. It's that you can commit to a 6 month plan and stick to it. Life after WLS and the way of eating is a life long commitment. I'm going to start my new six months with the frame of mine that it is an opportunity. It gives me even more time to prepare myself and just as important, those around me.

Winner Girl, I am glad things are working out. I too was at St. Vincent recently and my insurance company wants to 6 month diet. I submitted documentation showing that I was on one in the past years, so hopefully that will suffice. If not, I have been dreading another 6 month diet requirement. However, I think you have the right attitude. Lisa37
