Anyone have "blood clot filter" inserted before surgery??
hey there! i just had surgery on 10/13 and i also had a filter put in. i was pretty nervous myself, but it was nothing!! what happened is they cleaned the area w/betadine which i was really sqeemish about b/c i'm VERY ticklish. anyway after that they had to shave a little bit at the site where they were going to insert the filter. after that they gave me some medicine to make me go into a twilight sleep. i was awake but couldn't feel a thing......i wish i could have had some of that medicine to take home w/me. LOL. next thing i knew it was over, and i had to lie completely flat for an hour. this means legs completely flat (you can't even bend your legs at your knees). to me this was the worst part b/c i have a lower back problem and it was painfull having to lay there like that for an hour. i hope this helps. good luck w/your surgery!!
Hi Deb
I had to have a filter placed before surgery it was a very simple procedure. They shave you and clean the area then numb it and insert a tube then the filter goes thru the tube and go up into your belly area. The worst part was having to lay still after they were done. I had mine taken out 6 weeks after. That was not pleasant at all cause they have to take it out thru your juglar vein in your neck. They put you in twilight zone to do this, but that stuff never worked for me so I was pretty much wide awake and knew everything they were doing. As long as you have a good Doctor and they know what there doing you'll be fine. Once it's in you'll never know it's there. Good luck in your journey.

They put it in your groin and take it out your neck!!! Are you kidding me? I'm very squimish about my neck...although I've had to have a central line in it before but it just freaks me out! I'm hoping my IVC would be in my groin...but to think it's still possibly going to be removed from the neck....yikes!

Hi Deb,
I had the Greenfield Filter put in about 2 weeks or so before surgery, it was really a piece of cake, I don't remember much of it, because they give you good drugs and you honestly don't feel a thing, you do have to lay for a while after but you are so tired from the drugs not to mention the lack of sleep you get the night before worrying about it that you rest really well and before you know it your off to head home, I was extremely nervous but it was really simple looking back...now its been a year and half since my surgery, which it seems its been a lifetime ago, i'm sure I wrote something in my profile if you want to see what exactly i did say about it..lol anyway congrats on your surgery and before you know it, it will all be nothing but a vivid memory!!
Hugs, Tabitha
Hi, Deb
Had my RNY at the Clinic last Friday. On Saturday night and Sunday I had to get two shots in my stomach for blood clots. Not fun!!! Apparently blood clots are something they are concerned about with this procedure. I also had to have the compression pumps on my legs the whole time I was in there. Blood clots are a serious thing, so don't worry about it. They're doing it for your own good. You'll be OK!!!
