Does anyone have Anthem Blue Access PPO? How did your approval process go? What are their requirements for wls? Any information would be helpful as I am moving toward having wls I am 5'1 with a BMI of 50. I think it's time to make a change.

Hi Quanika, Most insurance companies request that you have 6 months of supervise w/ a dietitian and/ or family doctor w/ weight history. Five years medical histories to see if you have any serious medical problems that can leave once you get WLS. You should call the insurance company and asked them what is the policy and they can let you know or go to there website. If you have any question email me or give me a call @ work 614-776-7354. I live right here in Columbus. I will check back later.

I have this insurance. I spoke with the lady this a.m. and she said all I needed was to be 100 lbs. overweight. I need to turn in any pain issues I have, any obesity related diseases. Then have a psychology exam and nutrition counceling. And that's it. Call your insurance company and ask them.

Quanika, In my experience with Anthem Blue Access, all that is needed is a psych. eval., nutritional assesment, surgeon consult and, if interested in the lap band, your BMI must be below 50 (even 49.9 is acceptable). Of course, the usual guidelines apply: BMI must be above 35 w/ a co-morbid etc... I love Anthem Blue Access. It is actually my favorite insurance company to work with! Good luck! Quanika, Many Anthem policies only cover the lap band if your BMI is less than 50. Just FYI. Good luck, Dr. C

Thanks so much everyone. I am just switching to this insurance and have not received any information about the company policies though. I have a friend who had RNY and Anthem payed for it...she said she had no problems getting approved. She also told me that they may not support LapBand. I'm feeling a little better today knowing that there is a chance for me to have the lap band still. You guys are great.
