I am five months post op and just found out I am pregnant. I am very happy. We tried for a very long time before surgery and decided to have surgery and wait. Please give me any info on pregnancy after bypass. Thanks Kate

Hi there! Congratulations on your little one! I am currently almost 3 months pregnant (EDD 5/5/07); however, I'm 2 years out from my RNY so mine is probably a little different than yours. Issues I've had so far: my sugar tolerance has dramatically decreased (it took a few sugar dumps to figure this one out) and my doctor says my biggest battles will be with my low blood sugar and low blood pressure (which I had prior to pregnancy as well-but mostly after the RNY). My pouch empties out so much more quickly now (it makes since) and because I've been nauseated and so sick the last two months I've dropped a couple of pounds. I'm sure everyone is a bit different but I would follow up with your doctor ASAP as you are so early out of your surgery. FYI there is also a post-surgery pregnancy forum on here, full of information and lots of women who are interested in sharing their stories. Best of luck!

Make a bee-line for your nutritionist. Nutrition is so important in the first 3 months of pregnancy and you are already at nutritional risk. She will give you new requirements for folic acid, protein, and calcium. Do not wait and be sure to tell them the reason for the visit so they can get some reading stuff together for you. Good luck and congratulations.
