new to this #2

hello and thanks for the response to my first message. Though I have talked to alot of people and read as much as I could it still is confusing. I know the doctor will guide me the direction I need to go, and of course it is if my insurance ok's, but over the past couple years my blood pressure and sugar have started to get out of control so I want to be able to have what will help me better control or eliminate this. Like I said in my profile I have 4 kids I want to watch grow up and then spoil some grandkids. Which ones have better success rates? can all be done lapo? I guess I get more confused when I read the medical descriptions. One of the biggest concerns I have is after the surgery how long is it before you feel good enough to walk around,not 100% better, just able to ride in the car and walk around the store. I have had some people tell months. So I wonder did they just have a bad experiance or is this the case. Any help in clearing the clouds would be helpful Thanks Tom

Tom, I believe all of your questions depend on how big you are and your health. They will do the type surgery that's best for you depending on your size and health. You may need an open RNY instead of lapro. It just depends on your size and your health. Then, when you can drive and go back to work, etc. etc., will depend on the type surgery you have. Also, some insurances require you to go through a supervised weight loss program, some as long as 6 mons. I'm getting ready to start one, it's for 12 weeks. I'm sure Dr. Lane will answer all of your questions. Don't forget to write them down, when you think of one. Peggy

Hey Tom. I think (key word) they try to do things laproscopically because the recovery time is typically shorter - however, if they need to do open - they do. I had my surgery on th 19th (lap rny), and I can't walk around much yet. Its slow and painful, but its been less than a week still....I'd love ot know how long this will last for me, because its not fun. car ride home was ok...a bit too bumpy, but not horrid.
