Dr Curry??? Colonoscopy prep Question
Hi Dr Curry... everyone...
I know this post might sound VERY personal... but, I thought the answer may benefit others who could one day run into this problem
I am having my first colonoscopy (PCP does everyone at 50) late this week (Thrusday 8/24 at 10:30am). I have a few questions about the prep. The folks at the hospital where I am having the test kind of "goss over" everything... giving me the "oh it'll be fine... just do it"... I guess I just want more detailed info from my WLS Doc ... as they don't have a lot of experience with WLS patients.
My "prep" questions -
Starting LAST Thursday, I had to discontinue ALL vitamins, supplements (calcium, Iron****il after the test. Will being off of these for a week cause any problems in the long run for me?? I have never missed a day of my vitamins/sulpplements
I have also been prescribled "Zelnorm" (2 - 6mg tabletststo take at 2:00pm in the afternoon before my test) I have read a lot of questionable things on the internet about this drug - Will it be all right for me to go ahead and take it??? Will it cause me to uncontrollably "go" within hours??? I HAVE to be somewhere other than my home until 5pm!!!
I am also doing the "Mirilax" prep starting at 5:00pm - I have to drink an 8oz glass down fast every 10 minutes... until the solution is gone... (64 oz in all) -- I am used to SIPPING my liquids... if I "DOWN" this stuff it will come right back up! any suggestions?? Will it be all right to sip??
I have no problem with following the clear liquid diet I will begin tomorrow been there - done that!
I know this test is very important and EVERYONE needs this screening, I just wish more small town hospitals were "up" on Gastric Bypass people... yeah... I am STILL running into Medical professionals that are not in favor of the marvelous tool I now have
Thanks a BUNCH!!!

This was some very good information!
I work for a GS and have also had an EGD & C-scope.........it will be done and over with before you know it! It only takes about 20 minutes for them to scope you and you will not feel anything or remember anything~~nor should you!! Just make sure someone is there when the doctor talks to you, because many patients don't remember the doctor talking to them. Many patients 'dread' this procedure, but there is nothing to it....honest!
Good Luck to you and I hope this helps!
