confused, can someone give me information??
Ok, I am trying to gather information about the newest surgeon in town..since getting to know as much as I can about local surgeons so to share information, is a hobby of mine..I of course am curious about Dr. WAtkins. He is located up around the West Chester area and if I am correct operates out of UC facility in that area.
I know he came from Seattle, I talked to a reliable source involved in the surgical supply industry, he told me he didn't think that Dr. Watkins moved to Ohio, that he is only traveling back and forth. I said, HUH? that is what I had heard from someone else but wanted to verify. Now I know he has another surgeon- Dr. Osborne so I am trying to find out his background in bariatrics..again I come up with a "HUH?" I can't find where he has ever done bariatric surgery in the past..
so my question is this..If Dr. Watkins lives in Seattle and travels back and forth how can he take care of a problem if it happens? And would I want his associate, a non bariatric surgeon to take care of me if it does happen? I mean I am so weird about that, I won't let just any surgeon take care of my gallbladder, my family doc gave me a name of a surgeon to see...I said.."ahh did you forget who you are talking too?" I know all the local bariatric surgeons, I would only go to one of them for any type of belly surgery..
ok am I ranting? maybe just a weeee bit, I am not putting this surgeon down, perhaps my info is way off...so someone help me out here. I am only trying to get info. I see his advertisement on TV..and have to wonder..he is a new doc, new staff..new facility. ack...maybe I have just seen to much in the 2 yrs. I have been a support person for others, I have had the privilege of spending time in a few centers and more time with surgeons personally..there are those who believe in us as patients and have real genuine concern and care..I don't want to see someone in the industry who isin this for the $$$$$ only...now again...I am not saying all the surgeons don't make a nice living..after all they went to med school and then spent more time learning surgical procedures, open and more recently laparoscopically, then on bariatrics as a speciality..something I am very grateful for(OIY, my brain hurts thinking of how smart they are)
they deserve to make a nice living, they work long hard hours...But why would I chose a doc who lives 1400 miles away vs the great surgeons we have here in our area? I just don't get it..Help me out here, maybe I am missing something??
Now hopefully I am wrong and I was misinformed..so if I am wrong please if anyone knows more than me, let me know...there is a lot of behind the scenes emails going back and forth about this subject and if you know me I like to get things out in the open..
Thanks for any info you can share with us!!

Brenda,
Dr. Watkins has a website. Maybe there will be some answers to your questions.
www.cincyweightloss.com
I attened one of the information seminars presented by Dr. Watkins and the Cincinnati Weight Loss Center. At that time (early June 2006) Dr. Watkins was very upfront about the fact that the Cincinnati center was an extension of his practice in Everett Washington, the Northwest Weight Loss Center. At the seminar, he introduced Dr. Brad Osborne who would eventually be the primary surgeon at the Cincinnati center. Dr. Watkins stated that he would be in Cinncinnati "as long as it takes" to get the center up and running with the Cincinnati center eventually transitioning to Dr. Osborne.
so essentially what he said is that he is personally training Dr. Osborne to do bariatrics?..he is only doing lapband correct? what about the staff there, are they well trained in lapband? I am just trying to get the facts, as I said I don't know ...I think anyone searching should know exactly what the facility is about and I am sure if they are working hard to put together a good center they want the facts known as well....the background in that commercial sure doesn't look like it was a scenic Cincinnati skyline..
I think I need to attend a seminar and check them out.
