Post surgery questions. Kinda long!
I had Roux-en-Y distal on June 29,2006. at OSU with Dr. MIkami
#1 I have severe bruising mostly on the left side belly button to left side. Normal?
#2 I have the same amount of pain as I did the day after surgery? Normal?
#3 Anyone have the schedule for eating/drinking to get everything in. I have not found the magic schedule yet!
Thanks for all the info!
Hi Connie... I had pain and discomfort for several weeks after my surg, but you really should call Janice, Dr. Mikami's nurse, and tel lher about it. I had most of my pain to the right of my belly button. It is very hard to get in your food and fluids.. just hang in there and keep sipping away. There is no magic schedule. The first 6 wks is just plain hard. Hang in there...diane
Did you get the blood thinner shots in your belly? I had horrible bruising from those so much it looked like i had been in some sort of accident. Pain for a few weeks i even thought some of the later pain was worse than the pain right after surg. Like i couldnt take a deep breath for a few days but it goes away. Eating is a learning process you will have to work your way up to it. It will happen dont freak out too soon. My doc suggested setting a kitchen timer to remind about the drinking part.
Good luck

Welcome Home Connie!
Bruising is normal, all the blood thinners they give you. I look like I wa**** by a truck...felt like it too. Lots of pain...but it does slowly get better with every day.
The sugar-free popsicles saved me from returning to the hospital with dehydration. I had them first thing in the morning and all day long... Water was very difficult for me, just sat there. I also put ice in the blender with crystal light lemonade and made lemon ices, it helped with the thirst and I just used a spoon, could not tolerate straw.
Focus on hydration more than anything right now, you'll be luck to get protein in... I had less than 20 g at my 2 week and Dr.needleman was more concerned with hydration, the other stuff will come.
Sometimes I didn't start eating until 1pm and tried to go until 11p. It took me that long to get rehydrated from the night. Dehyration causes loss of appetite. I actually felt better when I didn't eat and drink BUT THAT is NOT a good sign!
Glad to see you are up to posting. Will keep thinking of you.
