Hello,
My name is Jennifer and I have made the decision to change my life. I am 41 years old and weigh 365. I have tried every diet in the book and have taken pills but I have only gained back everything I lost, plus some.
I am looking for a chat forum so that I can chat with others that have and are in my situation.
I take all the advice I can get.
I have been to one seminar and going to another on June 20. I hope to have my banding done in October.
I have found that my husbands insurance does not cover it but my family physician is going to try a letter to see if he can get them to allow it. Other than that we will have to pay out of pocet. Any suggestions on that?
Basically, get me started and I look forward to chatting with you.
Thanks,
Jennifer
Jennifer,
If your insurance has an exclusion do not waste an appeal by having your PCP write a letter. It will not work. You need a surgeon's office to help you with it, you can accompany it with a letter from your PCP but that alone won't be enough. It's very hard to get an appeal overturned.
Good luck!

Brenda,
Thanks for responding to my message. Several have and I am so excited to know I can turn to anyone in this chat forum.
Great to have a neighbor also. Seems alot of people have done the gastric, I am doing the band, less evassive and I had a hysterectomy a couple years ago and had a blood clot to the lung and that limits the major surgeries for me.
I am still getting information and trying to get appoved. My husband is great support but he has never been heavy so he really does not understand. I will be getting a lot of new friends that does understand where I am coming from, Exciting.
I will keep everyone posted. Thanks again for responding. Thank you all.
Chat later,
Jennifer
Jennifer, email me ...we can meet up some time and talk..though i had bypass. I can still answer some questions, esp about the docs in the area. As I have had the privilege of meeting most of them.

Jennifer, welcome to the start of the rest of your life. I am a Dr. Curry groupie and I will always recommend him and his staff, they are they best and will do everything in their power to make this go fast, and as easy as possible. I live in the Loveland area so we are pretty close. Feel free to contact me and ask anything. Im not a band patient but thats ok....weight loss is weight loss and a helping hand and friendly voice is what we all need.......Pam
Jennifer, Welcome to the best site! I was looking at having the band too but my insurance had an exclusion if you BMI is too high and mine was. So I decided to go with the Gastric Bypass. After being educated by Dr. Needleman, I would have decided to do this anyway because I was diabetic. I do say was because 6 weeks post-op I am off ALL of my medicine, I was maxed out ready for insulin. My aic was 8 and now is 5.6! If you are not familiar with diabetes these are awesome numbers! the band would not have done this because you can still eat sugar. Do talk to a surgeon about the options. PCP's just do not have all the information to help you make the right decision for YOU!
What ever you decide make sure you go to the education classes, see a Dietician. I hated some of the hoops I had to jump through OSU but am so GLAD that I did. It is easy to get into "trouble" after surgery and you need to know what to do... I only know about OSU's program but I am impressed that Dr.Curry monitors this website and helps with information as needed or requested. Good-luck to you and like I said before, this is the best website around! Mel
