may i ask how much you weigh? i have read 12 books so far,and done extensive research on bariatric surgeries on the internet and from surgeons ive talked to and all that info. the lapband is not really worth the money. i would have the rny if i were you. lapband does have complicatins and you also to have to go to numerous doctors visit,it's required,to have adjustment made to the band. also it is widely known it can slip and cause adhesion around your stomach or not work at all which is often the case. it really is a total waste of money. maybe your doctor would rather recommend the other surgeries for you. if i were you i would go the library and see if they have any books on bariatric surgery if not they can order them for you for free. and most people on the lap band do gain their weight back and double.

Wow EM,,, Hope that research serves you well I am down around 100 lbs since oct of last year with the band since late nov,,, I would say it was worth every penny and more. I would recomend that anyone who fits the criteria and understands the risks concider it. It is not for everyone, but it is not permanent either. I on the other had don't stand against RNY it is for some people like the band is for some people but I shure would not call the band a waste of money. I know people who have failed on both sides. But I know more who are succeeding. Now as for the topic at hand!!!!! I would find a diffrent doc. My PCP at the time was against the band due to many of the misguided information laid out in Em's post. I found a diffrent doc and she is awsome. She was unsure at first cause I was the first to have it done under her care. Now she refers folks to me to here my story. It ain't for everybody but neither is breathing!! GOOD luck and please over look my early babble it just ticks me off when people speak out against something they have no practical experience on.

all i have to say to J is this the advice was a bariatric doctor who does that procedure and other weight loss procedure and he was quoting accurate data! and you read and research it too. and the thing like you will also learn from the seminars is you have to have insurance because you will have to go back for adjustment often in the first year and also what if there's a complication that has often happens with this? and like most people know some people go on and have the rny or another weight loss revision anyway.

Let me just say that this post is inaccurate in just about every possible way a post could be inaccurate. Please don't post stuff like this if you don't know what you're talking about, it makes it even harder for patients who are already having a hard time making a decision. C

well, you're wrong. this advice came from 2 highly qualified bariatric surgeons ,who are going by statics. so are you saying these and countless other doctors and patients who have written about it are wrong too????????

If you need a new PCP. I can give you the name of mine. She is over in Sharonville. She was very supportive of my decision to have WLS. You can e-mail me at [email protected]. Take care

Get another PCP!! If Dr. Curry thinks it would be medical malpractice NOT to have WLS then that sounds like the conventional wisdom. Doctors are not gods. Some of them are just complete asses with biases and prejudices which are not helpful. Your PCP should remember "FIRST DO NO HARM"....... his/her ignorance IS doing you harm if the best bariatric surgeon in Cincinnati thinks you NEED the surgery. Your PCP works for YOU. JUST FIRE him and get your surgery and your life back! Good luck and God bless. Nancy

Linda, I have had to find a new pcp since surgery. My dr was exactly like yours and I went to her for 12 years and she refused to accept that I was doing this to myself. I tried to get this done 5 years ago and she refused, so I gained more weight and become more unhealthy and miserable. After she wrote my insurance company the referal letter that she wrote I never went back to see her again. My history of weight loss attempts alone was what got me this gift. Don't give up hope and don't let one person bring you down. Hang in there! Josie 257/151/150
