Hello everyone: I just want to say and apologize for not posting as often as I should. Iam known to lurk quite a bit, but believe me I feel as if I know you all in a personal way from reading your post's. I usually just read this board and the January 2006 message board. I am doing pretty good with my weightloss. I have lost 63 pounds since surgery and was quite happy with my progress. I don't know if I had posted about my situation, but two weeks after surgery, I was transporting my daughter to the hospital, she is 15 and has severe anxiety disorder, so bad that right now she is not in school and has to be tutored here at home. On February the 9th she had a severe anxiety attack and was feeling suicidal. She also is a self harmer so she was in pretty bad shape. Well, instead of calling the paramedics I decded to take her to the hospital myself. It is just her and I, so there was noone else to help me. If I would have called the paramedics they would have taken her to our local hospital, and in the past they have not been that good dealing with her promblem. I decided to take her myself to a hospital in the next city over. Well, on the way to the hospital, a drunk driver was turning left onto a side street and did not see me going straight and ran right into my front end head on. My car was totaled. My daughter's head hit the window, but she was ok. My ankle and thumb were hurting pretty bad but I was more in shock and worried about ashley. I was also concerned about my incision, which was ok. Anyway, that was two months ago. Right now I am recovering from orthoscopy on my knee. Iam on crutches, when the car hit, my ankle twisted and injured my knee cap giving me a torn meniscus. Up until last friday, I have been doing pretty much walking around, doing all my chores, walking to the store, taking the bus, and getting by pretty good without transportationl. The guy's insurance company really did not pay me that much for my car because my car was older so I was unable to get a descent car. Iam 49 yrs old and up until the accident was feeling very positive about everything going on in my life. I really have not been able to enjoy my weight loss success because of this interference. I have been totally independent my whole adult life, and now find that Iam having to call family members for trasportation to family events and things like that. My son is picking me up today to take me to the knee surgeons office for my follow up. Iam so sorry for whining and crying to all of you but i need to vent. I do have an attorney, and the man had full coverage. He was driving a 2006 Silverado pick up. I just hope and pray that his liability covers all my medical bills because iam on disability and medicare and they will not cover it because it was the guys fault. Iam so worried that my weight loss will be at a stand still because of not getting any activity in anymore for now. I cannot even walk without the aid of crutches. The only time I really am able to do anything around my apt is when the pain pills kick in and Iam not feeling as much discomfort. Can anyone give me any adivice on how to maybe get my heart rate going without walking or running. Maybe any kind of sitting down exercises, just to keep me active. I gained all of my weight from depression and inactivity and I fear gaining it all back. please keep me in your prayer Denise 296... day of surgery 226...Today

Hi Denise: wow... what a nightmare. I am glad you have an attorney. I used to adjust claims for an insurance company and you should get all your medical bills paid, in addition to a good amout of money for your pain and suffering. Make they other guy pay to his policy limits if you can. Then you will be able to get a decent car. I am having my lapband surgery in Mexico two weeks from today. I'm really so grateful to have this tool to help me. If you could get your hands on some weights... or even use cans of vegetables and just lift them repeatedly with your hands I think it would help. It would seem you should be in physical therapy for your knee at least twice or three times per wee****il you can walk without crutches. Just try to keep a positive attitude. One of the reasons I am having this surgery is my knees. I had two surgeries....one on each side when I was 49 and at that time my surgeon said: "every time you walk up a step you are carrying three times your body weight. "So the more weight you lose the better for your knees. I am looking forward to getting the 100 lbs off my knees. I am sick of the knee, hip and lower back pain. GOOD LUCK and try to keep a positive attitude.

I was in a accident ther guy had no insurance. So my insurance paid for it. They paid all my hospital bills. and paid me the same amount that the hospital bills cost. It was like $2000.00 You should not need to pay for nothing Take Care Barb

Im sorry to hear that you are having such a horrible time. I will keep you in my prayers. However, Richard Simmons has an exercise video specifically for those of us who cant stand too long. You do these exercises sitting down. And believe me, you will notice a difference after doing these daily for a week. The name of the tape is 'sit tight'. I got mine from a good friend, but I think they cost somewhere around 15.00. Good luck to you and I will also pray for your daughter. I suffer from depression and anxiety attacks, and I too, have gained 100 + pounds just from being depressed and suicidal. I eat constantly it seems. That seems to be the only thing that makes me feel better. Then I get mad at myself for eating and I cycle all over again. Terrible. You take care of yourself. Bobbie

I'm sure the guy's insurance will cover everything -- especially if he had full coverage and the police report determines that he was at fault. Also, the insurance company may attempt to settle with you for pain and suffering. DON'T TAKE THEIR FIRST OFFER! I was in an accident a little over a year ago, 2 weeks before I gave birth to my second daughter. Fortunately, everything was OK. The insurance company offered me $300 for pain and suffering, and an attorney later told me that I could have gotten MUCH more. Anyway, chin up. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.

I know how you feel with the family thing...I have always had something to drive until the last year or so.. It is so frustrating..I hate calling my mom or my daughter for rides but I have no one else...I have put off doctor's appointments and check ups for the kids because it is too hard to get an appointment and a babysitter at the same time, since my family is the only babysitter I have also...I just pray every day that something changes and a miracle happens to get me a vehicle...So I know how you feel about counting on everyone else.... My prayers are with you!

I'm sorry about your situation, but keep your head up. Ithis will make you an even stronger person, and how you handle it will help your daughter to learn to be strong. His insurance should pay, my only concern would be because if he was drunk and if their is a clause about that??!! I don't know much about insurance. I do know DO NOT take the first offer!!!!! Once you settle and if you have any more medical problems it will be up to you to pay so you need enough money to cover future PT, You will not be able to go back and ask for more money. As for pain and suffering I have no sympathy for a drunk driver.... I believe you have up to 2 years to settle. They will want you to do it right away. Since you are already on disability wait as long as you can. I wold think you would get in the 10's of thousands
