HELP DR C anybody?..... Round 2 of constipation issues
I feel as if I am getting blown off from OSU. Some of you may know I have been having constipation issues for 5 months now. I have been told do a colon cleanser.. did that nothing happened. I have used every kind of laxative out there made.. nothing happens...I had a colonoscopy scheduled for 2 months now.. I get a phone call today saying they are now moving it from May 25th to Jun 29th. I have not had a BM in 10 days. I cannot wait that long! I look like I am ready to give birth to twins. I feel miserable.
I am so desperate right now. I need this colonoscopy done ASAP. Any suggestions on how I can get this done like yesterday???
Dr C... what is your take on this? What can I do to get this done sooner?
Thanks
Julie
Thanks Sandra...
I am just at my wits end. I am not in any pain at this time, but when I do go, I will be doubled over.
I am originally from Chillicothe. I miss it there. I have lived in Columbus for almost 18 years now. Nothing like coming home to see family and friends.
You have a good evening.

This may help when you talk to the doctor. My daughter who is 10 has had problems with BM's since potty training. Her problem was that she wouldn't go for weeks and then when she did they were so big, she would break out in sweats and cry. After a couple of years working with the pediatrician trying some over the counter products he referred us to a specialist and they put her on a prescription called MIRALAX this really helped her. She took the medicine for at least a year and then her body trained itself to go regularly. We are still not perfect with it but a whole lot better than before. Ask your doctor about the MIRALAX. It is a podwer that you can put in a drink or on your food. I hope this was somewhat useful.

Hi Julie!
I understand what you are going through. Unfortunately this situation is something that is handled by our PCP not our surgeon. Thankfully I've found that taking freshly ground flaxseed in my oatmeal really keeps me regular, at least one BM per day. If I don't take my flaxseed, or miss more than 3 days of it per week I'm heading for trouble. OSU surgeons office passes a lot over to our PCP because it's their job to take care of the basics of life I guess. Have you tried calling your PCP? They also are the ones to get nasty with the testing departments. I'm sorry you are miserable, and trust me I understand! I'm going to go take my flaxseed now, I've missed a couple of days being out of town for my grandma's funeral!
Hey Julie, i havent had my wls yet, but i do know that if you go to the ER with abdominal pains they will do something about it. I just went through this with my son about 3 weekends ago, he went in with tummy aches/no bm (no he hasn't had wls) but they did a cat scan and said that he may have Crohns so they emidiatly sent him up to another hospital because the GI specialist was there at other hospital. anyhow he also had the same symptoms that you are having. they kept him in hospital for 4 days (only because it was the weekend) and did a colenoscopy on Tuesday, there has to be a one day prep so be prepaired for that.. anyhow it turned out that he had ulcers in his intestines, thankfully he didn't have any pulips, but with the ulcers it not only swelled up his intestines so he couldn't go to the bathroom but it also created his lymphnoids to swell thinking there was an infection..
what we have to do now is watch what he eats, no fried foods for sure, plenty of water.. and when this happens (no bms) he gets fevers and everything like his body is fighting off an infection but its just the ulcers..
so if your pcp wont do anything i would deffinatly go to the ER..
take care, hope this helps you.

UPDATE: Went to see my PCP today. He putting me on Miralax. He also is scheduling me a colonoscopy ASAP. The Dr he is recommending me to is affilated with OSU and is a gastrologist, which is good, because if they say this is surgery related, they can work with my surgeon on gettine me relief.
By the way... I have had 2 bowel movements.. so I feel alot better.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for your advice and caring.
Hugs
Julie
