Just when I "let go & let God"
accepting the idea that their 11 yr. marriage would not include biological progeny, Mitsu got pregnant. 
They told us when we came for Thanksgiving - TWINS, fraternal, one each - would be arriving the end of March!!
They decided to give their Mom a break and were delivered on Sat.
I get to be with them on Thurs.
WOOOOO HOOOO!

Topic: RE: NEVER 2 LATE 4 YOUR 1ST DUMPING EPISODE!!!
TRUE CONFESSION:
I'm 6 1/2 yrs post-op RNY & holding steady for about 5 years as a size 8 AND I'd never experienced the dreaded "dumping" syndrome.
Reading descriptions of the experience on my surgeon's message board put the fear of dumping into me big time!
So I never played the cat-and-mouse game of seeing what I might be able to "get away with," in food & beverage choices.
Two nights ago, however, I was taken down by a full-blown dumping episode; AND, it wasn't from eating "forbidden" foods! It snuck up on me like an army of NINJA. 
What I realized as the episode began was that the fruit salad I'd made with fresh-but-over-ripe kiwi & bananas, had made portion control hard for me to gauge; that I'd probably eaten the equivalent of 1 kiwi+ 1 banana; and the level of fructose, possibly fermented!, was more than my intestinal tract could manage.
My heart was racing, my head was fizzy, I felt dizzy, I found myself panting, gas cramps followed, I staggered upstairs to where my husband was dead asleep, yelling his name in what sounded to my ears as slurred speech. If I'd been in public, I think most folks would've thought I was falling-down-drunk.
I tried lying down. Bad Idea.
I tried standing bent over our bed. Another Bad Idea.
Something told me my only hope was to walk it off, hanging onto Jim's arm. For 30 min. I walked around our upstairs until I was able to support myself with my sturdy walking stick.
Jim went downstairs & came up with a 32 oz. bottle of filtered water with sugar-free Propel lemon powder diluted 50%. I started drinking the water through a straw & walking.
I asked Jim to go online to OBESITY HELP to see what they said to do for dumping & was told nothing was gonna get better til things got through my small intestines. 
So I figured the walking & water would force the issuel
It did & I fell into bed at midnight, propped up on my back - about 100 min. after it began. It wasn't over, but it was at a level where my fatigue could overpower everything else & I fell asleep.
So what have I learned?
I have to be as careful around fresh fruit salads as any salad bar or buffet banquet.
Fructose is sugar. My intestinal tract did not deduct calories for fructose vs. high fructose corn syrup.
It has been an exhausting, frightening and educational experience. Sunday, I felt like a limp dishrag.
Jim & I took a walk through the Chattahoochee Nature Center to enjoy our first gloriously sunny day in weeks; but I was walking slowly and still feeling mentally fuzzy. 
Today, I felt normal.
My hope is that by sharing it with you,I can prevent some other long-time post-op from going through the dreaded dumping syndrome!

Being born & raised in Manhattan, I never listenned to weather forecasts as if my life might depend on it.
That changed when we moved to Houston (western suburbs off the Katy Fwy) and I learned that FLASH! flooding is a literal description of what happens to your street, and that tornados are close by when the manhole covers start dancing like whirling dervishes 2 ft. above their openings! Not to mention hurricanes charging up the highway from Galveston...
Since 1981, we've lived in the northern suburbs of Atlanta (a 12 min. drive down GA 400 to the beltway) and (for the last 4 yrs.) in our dream house on a lakefront.
Fortunately, our backyard slopes downnnnnn to Lake Martin, so our home was never at risk. But it wasn't til the day after, when I put on my waterproof rainboots & slogged down to the nature walk that goes around this 55-acre lake, that I realized how far up the slope the waters had risen!
I put my photos with commentary in an album that's open to anyone to see on Facebook.
It's under my name.
Picking up garbage along shore, blowing wet leaves off our steep driveway & decks is excellent exercise, BTW!

Call me crazy but this Oct. I'm going to my college reunion at
Ithaca College!
What gave me the courage? One of my Radio-TV brothers saw me on FB & said the photos in my FB albums were exactly the way he remembered me -
40 years ago!
Truth is, I'm thinner, stronger and healthier than I was back then! (See my BEFORE & AFTER photos!)
I was the ONLY "girl" to graduate from the then-Dept. of Radio-TV (now it's a School) in 1969. Thanks to non-stop dieting, cigerettes, cottage cheese and Fresca/ Tab, oh! and prescription diet pills I managed to stay a size 12-14. 'Course on a 5'9+" frame (barefoot, and, honey, nobody saw me barefoot out on the quad!) that didn't look bad...
So, if YOU"RE an IC grad from "The Big Chill" class of '69, ID yourself & let me know if you'll be at reunion!
And, if you're female, you (obviously) won't be a Radio-TV major, cause I was "it!" But, that's OK!
And if you're a youngster from the classes of '79. '89 or, even, '99 - give me a shout out, too!
Especially if you're a RADIO-TV "girl!" Honeys, I could tell you stories about being the "token female" that would curl your hair and have you spitting nails!

I'll be visiting my Mom on Manhattan's Upper Westside for a week, starting TOMORROW!!
I cannot wait to put on my sneakers and walk my turf: generally,
Columbus Circle to 79th St., Broadway to CPW.
Spent the first 10 years growing up in the ANSONIA HOTEL on B'way. 73-74th Sts., the setting for the chiller movie, "SWF" and the comedy, "The Sunshine Boys."
Spent the next 10 on West 71st.
Had our firstborn while living on ROOSEVELT ISLAND (we were pioneers!)...

Hope springs eternal! 547 morbidly obese women and men (with at least twice that many friends and family!) stood in the Georgia sun for hours last Sat. to interview for the 30 spots on season 9, which will begin taping this Sept., as season8 premiers on Sept. 15th.

As a former hospital chaplain and parish minister, I know the value of giving myself a "laughter break!" 
when I feel myself getting caught up in anxiety 
or melancholy. 
A few days ago, I caught something on camera 
that seemed to tell a short story. I edited down the photos to 7, added captions and here it is (just click on the tabloid title)!

SOUTH ST SEAPORT - great idea!! Haven't been there since the kids were in elem. school
The weather here this morning is "picture perfect!" I'll be walking thru CPk to visit a friend on the Eastside. From there I can take the Lexington subway downdown. I was going to go to M.O.M.A., but with the weekend weather forecast promising THUNDERstorms I can save my fav museums for then.
Forgive my provincialism, but where's Comack?

I'm back home in NYC and it's WONDERFUL! I'm goimg to a movie premiere Friday at 2pm at the QUAD Cinema on West 13th St.. You can read all about it on my blog:

Plus I got orchestra tix to "SPRING AWAKENING," "110 in the SHADE" and "NIXON/FROST."
As soon as I got to my Mom's 26th floor upper Westside apt. overlooking Central Park & Fifth Ave., I dropped my gear & headed back out to walk my neighborhood.
An hour later, I ended up at the
Fairway Market on Broadway & 74th St. where I shopped like a suburbanite, forgetting that I'd have to schlepp all those fresh, organic fruits, veggies & just-ground peanut butter about a third of a mile home! Thank God I pump iron!
Call me if you'd like to meet at Starbuck's!

I'm the instigater who tried to stir up enough interest to inspire the folks at OH HQ to schedule an event in Manhattan this fall. Anyone remember?

FYI for those of you new post-ops, you can sabotage WLS after the first 9-12 months.
In fact there's a booming business in "recisions;" surgically reducing the size of your pouch after you've stretched it out so much you've gained back at least half the weight you lost post-op.This is the time to arm yourself with the information I'm offering!
