Abundance will always stay with you when you are
appreciative of what you have now, no matter
how large or small. Showing gratitude will always expand
what is good. That is why love grows when
you give it away; why those who “pay forward" from the
heart will always have what they give
replenished equally to tenfold. Feel blessed by that!

Topic: RE: Medicare any Dr upstate Ny
Here are a few excellent surgeons that definitely take Medicare - I am also on SSD. The only thing is that I don't know if they take medicaid, I also have a medicare supplemental plan as well as medicaid, so I didn't need to use medicaid since between Medicare and my supplemental everything was paid for 100%. Just know that he should be aware that medicare doesn't preapprove, so he has to prepared to pay out of pocket if denied after the fact. They generally will approve you if you meet there requirements but there is always the chance. It is also an advantage to have a surgeons office with a good insurance department that knows how and what to submit. These surgeons that I am listing all have good insurance departements. The only thing is they will all involve you to travel - one is in Westchester county and 2 are in New York City.
Dr Marc Bessler at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC - 212-305-4000 - this was my surgeon
Dr. Daniel Herron at Mt Sinai = don't know the phone but you can find it on the internet. The only thing I didn't like about him was that he required most testing to be done at Mt Sinai. I found that to be too far for me to travel for tests that I felt could be done locally. My surgeon let me do everything locally except pre-op testing and the nutritional/NursePractioner consultation other than his appointments.
Dr. Cerabona at Westchester Medical Center - dont know the phone number but can get online

Thursdays, 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Albany Medical Center South Campus, 25 Hackett Blvd in the conference room.
All types of surgery and all hospitals welcome. You are also welcome if you are only thinking about surgery or not planning it at all and just need a place to feel the love about weight loss and all its issues.
See you there!

ALBANY MED over St Peter's any day. St Peters is NOT a Center of Ecellence. It is a fairly new program and is having (via a strong and reliable rumor mill), shall we say, issues. I am a bit partial to Albany Med as that is where I went, but I did go to the "educational" program at St Peter's with a friend. I came away from it felling like they had a few used cars that they wanted me to buy. It was more sales than education.
May I make a suggestion - my support group meets weekly and we do not hospital or proceedure descriminate. There are pre-ops, post-ops, RNYers, sleevers, bandsters and the occassional DSer (che's not local), AMCH and Ellis patients. We have seen one St Peter's patient. He didn't like what he heard from us about eating healthy, hasn't been back. We meet Thursdays, 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Albany Medical Center South Campus, 25 Hackett Blvd in the conference room.
Looking forward to meeting you sometime. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a private message or ask right here. I am an open book about my weight surgery.

Topic: RE: question about Support Group Meetings
1. I love the fact that I am never more than a week away from help. My support group meets weekly. It is a mixed group run by the hospital where I had my surgery. Some of us havce become really close friends. Everyone is supportive and nonjudgemental, even when someone admits that they dealt with stress by having a donut. The people are becoming my family! We have had people come in to speak, group panel discussions and vendor visits. One of our members has become an exercise coach for the group. She drives up from Brooklyn once a month or so with her dogs (our support pups). We have participated in a major 5K run (we walked), we are going zip-lining together. We are learning together how to deal with the new bodies we have. It isn't always about what and how to eat or dealing with the crap that goes on in our heads. It can be about learning to deal with the healthy bodies and lives we have been blessed with.
2. Nothing to dislike about it at all.
3. Nothing to change. If it wasn't being done well we wouldn't have 30 or so people there every single week.
