I used Dr. Zachary Gerut in Hewlett many years ago for a procedure not related to weight loss. He was excellent. Not sure what insurance he takes though. Good luck!!!

Topic: Plastic surgeons on Long Island :)
Hey all!  I'm 18 months post op (RNY) and looking for a plastic surgeon on Long Island.

I have Oxford Freedom insurance (with no out of network benefits) and the original surgeon I was looking to see (ann letourneau) does not accept my insurance.

My insurance will cover the panniculectomy, so long as the criteria is met (which i do meet the criteria) so I'm hoping to find a surgeon soon!

Any recommendations?  I'll take anyone on Long Island :)

Thanks!

Wow its been 5 years since I've had the RNY....what a life changing event.

After the surgery I lost alot of weight and gained alot of confidence.  I wanted to live live live and improve my life.  I've gone out with tons of girls, had 2 serious relationships, and my diabetes went away... I passed the CPA exam last year and became licensed.  If someone asked me what my three wishes in life were it would be to be normal sized, have a CPA, and a girlfriend....I have all three!

In total I lost about 90 pounds. Gained back about 25 lbs from my lowest...  I have stablized around 210-215 for about 3 years now, with a 36-38 inch waist...feel a little chubby but its ok....  I have to really work hard (exercising/avoid snacking) to get to under 200 and a 34...

Overall I had no complications with the surgery (thank god)...I've had a few health issues tho that are directly related to having an active life style.  A year after surgery I was roller skating for the first time and fell, I tore a muscle in my shoulder...it still aches.  I had a scare with Herpes from an Ex GF of mine, got tested, and came out clean....I don't mind these tho its like my old self would never try roller skating and wasn't having sex...

Best decision I've ever made in my life.  I was scared before the surgery I might have some complications but thank god I've been blessed!  To all of you out there dreams do come true!  keep fighting and dont give up!

Topic: RE: NEWBIE here....anyone doing RNY in Cooperstown NY?
Welcome, I from the Capital District. Completed all my requirements (RNY), finally received the call with the insurance approval, last step setting up my date. My surgeon is Dr Trivedi St. Peter's Hospital. Where are you going. Seems like people I know that use Ellis have a more speedy process than I have experience through St. Peter's..

Yolie -

you have to be careful - some companies in the policy they get with bcbs exclude WLS....others have long-term riders.....insurance from the same insurance company can vary employer to employer....

I noticed you said no wait, yet in your profile you said a six month wait....

I depends on the policy and riders that apply to YOU...that's why I said - conatct the insurance company first - get names and numbers of people you talked to.  Have then e-mail or fax you a copy of the policy and and riders that are applicable to you.  This way, there are no surprises.
