I had my surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC, and my surgeon there just opened an office in Mt Kisco at Northern Westchester Hospital.

He does all 4 weight loss surgeries, but primarily specializes in the sleeve and DS.

i have been waiting around, not hearing anything from anyone so i finally decided to call the Dr's office to find out where in the process i am.   of course i got an answering machine.  its very frustrating not knowing what is going on.
here i spend time and money jumping through hoops, seeing a shrink, a nutrionist, blood work, normal dr...etc.
i really hope that just call and update me.

does anyone have an idea after you get approved how long it normally takes to get the surgery?

Jojo...

Wow that's a big move so soon after surgery. That would be a tough adjustment even without having just had surgery!

Unfortunately, I'm not from western NY. so I don't know of support gourps in that area. But... if you were to phone a local hospital and ask for Bariatric Centers in the area ... that might be a place to start.
or click on FIND A HOSPITAL in the drop down menu on right of this post.

As far as your vomiting & fullness... it sounds like you may have a stricture. If there is any way that you could contact your surgeon in RI and ask for a referral to a surgeon in this area- that might be good also.

Hope you start feeling better soon, and find the support you are looking for....

Interestingly enough, you post about him not having a profile and there is a very brief one now. I'm thinking an anti WLS troll, but I did google him and there is a doctor with the same name. There were very few references listed, one of them was his profile here. He talks alot about technology and such. Can't be certain it is the same guy but the name is unusual enough I suppose. The bottom link is the google page. (edited to add last link)

This is what I found:

Hello Fellow New Yorkers,
I have recently moved from the MA/RI area after having RNY/GBS and am looking for some support.  I am living in between Rochester and Buffalo, in Orleans County.  I am currenly having a lot of trouble adjusting to the move and to the surgery itself.  The past few days have been filled with nothing but vomiting and "fullness".  Anyone from around this area know of any support groups or good surgeons that I coukld hook up with?  Thank so much!

Hello NY friends,

I am sipping some java and thinking about what to do today!

School starts next week for me so I want to enjoy every last day. Especially this great weather we are still having!
I may hit the pool and sun a little later. First HS football game tonight at 7pm. Should be exciting!! My son is the kicker and it is the first year we have just had a legit kicker. So we shall see.

Eating has been better. THings were getting crazy with the carbs, sweets and diet pepsi for a bit. Pulled in the reigns and got a grip!

Probably do a little school shopping tomorrow, some picnics with friends and family and just enjoying the long weekend.

How about you???
How is everyone doing and what are your plans for the holiday weekend?

HAppy Friday,
Lisa

Father Don,

Not sure about this DR. Being a ligit WLS peep. I got a friend request from him and did not accept due to the fact that I wasen't sure if it was a virus or something.

He may be a forum stalker or something. No profile last time I looked.

Just a feeling,
Lisa

Some Medical Facts about Obesity

More than two-thirds of adults in the United States are either trying to lose or maintain weight. However, only 20 percent are both eating fewer calories and engaging in at least 150 minutes of physical activity during leisure time each week. Furthermore, less than one-half of obese adults report being advised to lose weight by health care professionals. Thus, physicians can play an important role in educating people regarding the need for and the optimal strategies for losing weight.

Selection of treatment for overweight subjects is based upon an initial risk assessment. All should be evaluated for their readiness to change, an essential feature of those who are successful in losing weight. Patients who are in a pre-contemplative phase, in the early stages of thinking about it, are probably not candidates for an active program.

Those who are ready to lose weight should all receive basic information about behavior modification, diet, and exercise.

Diet and lifestyle

  • All patients who are overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2) or obese (BMI ≥30 kg/m2), should receive counseling on diet, lifestyle, and goals for weight loss.

Patients with a BMI of 25 to 29.9 kg/m2 who have an increased waist circumference (>40 inches/102 cm in men or >35 inches/88 cm in women) or those with a BMI 27 to 30 kg/m2 with comorbidities deserve the same consideration for obesity intervention as those with BMI≥30 kg/m2.

Pharmacotherapy

  • For patients who have failed to achieve weight loss goals through diet and exercise alone, we suggest pharmacologic therapy

Detailed recommendations for pharmacotherapy are discussed separately.
  • Bariatric surgery

  • For patients with BMI ≥40 kg/m2 who have failed diet and exercise (with or without drug therapy) or for patients with BMI >35 kg/m2 and obesity-related co-morbidities (hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, sleep apnea), we suggest bariatric surgery

 HI  Lisa,

I just returned from a 3 mile walk with some of my LIPO members.  Trying hard to get back into the exercise routine.
