yo definitely can ask those questions. it is not being negative. you can also ask what complications their patients have, how many they have done

those are perfectly normal questions, it is your life that he is taking into his hands. You want as much background info as possible. Also ask how many surgeries he has done? Mine did over 1500.

I don't think it is wrong. I would certainly be suspicious if they wouldn't answer you. The hospital can also and should provide you with the hospital statistics on those things as well as infection rate both for the OR and that particular surgery.

so i have been reading weight loss surgery for dummies. i am trying to figure out. would it be rude to ask the doctor if anyone ever died during surgery with them, or even after like 30 or 60 days out? or things like how many surgeries have you performed.
i asked one friend who is a Dr but in another area. he said it could come across as negative asking. but heck, this is my life i am wondering about lol. just wondered what you may think about that. i know the % is very low but still good questions i would think.
also if anyone can suggest any questions i should ask that i might not be thinking of i would appreciate it

is it rude to ask the Doctor if they have had any surgeries go bad? or if anyone has had major complications or even died after surgery or within a 30 or 60day time period?

Your journey is not over!!! This is just the beginning. And what a ride it is!!!
I do not know what your first visit will be like as all programs do things a little different.
For my first visit, I was lucky enough to meet my surgeon. Some offices you see a NP or PA first and maybe don't see the surgeon til you are scheduled for surgery. He did a complete medical history and then spent a huge amount of time explaining my options. He also told me why he thought gastric bypass would work best for me. He was not opinionated about any particular surgery and answered all my questions in detail and with patience. I would suggest that if you have any questions - write them down. In your excitement and apprehension you may forget what you want to know. Bringing a list of questions to the appointment is not silly, it is almost expected.
Good luck. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
