Does anyone sleep on their stomachs and if so, how long after surgery until you were able to again.

Hi Samantha - It took me three weeks to really be able to sleep on my stomach. Someone had suggested that I rent a recliner, and I was really grateful for it...I slept better there than in my bed for 1 week. I asked the same stomach-sleeping question when I was pre-op, and most replied 2-3 weeks. Some were able to lie flat and sleep in their own bed as soon as they got home. Good luck to you! Mary Mc

Samantha for me, I lived in my recliner for two weeks. I tried but just could not lay down on my back in bed because of the gas pain. There was no way I could have slept on my stomach until at least the third week! I'd highly reccomend a recliner for the first 2 weeks! Good luck Kenny

Samantha: I was (am) a stomach sleeper (or side sleeper at least). It was impossible for 2 weeks, and difficult for 4 weeks, then more bearable...but I had 2nd lap surgery 4 weeks out due to adhesions so FOR ME was about 8-10 weeks before I was COMFORTABLE to STOMACH sleeping on my STOMACH! LOL ....(if memory serves me it has been over 3.5 yrs)...I kicked hubby out of our KING SIZE bed and all 5 of my cats, slept w/ a large body pillow on each side, but as others mentioned I think I used recliner also many a nights! It was HARD trying to be a contortionist to get OUT OF BED once lying in it! (giggles) It wasn't so much any PAIN but stiffness/soreness... I had lap, started at 320 # at 5'9'' actually I was 275# day of surgery due to preop wt loss. Wishing u well! Samantha I lived in my recliner for about 3 weeks. I loved it so much I left it in our bedroom and at night before I go to bed I sit in my chair and watch TV.

I had lap to open and am over 3 weeks out - I had to sleep on my back with lots of pillows [I asked for pillows in lieu of flowers from my family so I now have a TON] for about a week and a half. Then I would be able to roll to sort of side/back position. Now I can sleep on my side if I get the position exactly right, and I often roll to my stomach but can't stay there long. Every day it gets better. The first week of sleeping on my back wasn't really an issue [and I suffer from major insomnia] - I was so tired and combined with the pain meds I slept fine. HTH xosm
