Protien in Coffee

I dont know if it was on this board or not, but someone was concerned about adding protien powder to coffee. I wrote to Jay Robb, the company that i get my protien from and this was the response. Hi Lisa, If you have to do coffee... You can put some hot coffee in a blender but not so hot that it will burn your mouth. Then add some Jay Robb protein and blend. If the water is boiling it can start to break down the protein. Drew I was happy to hear that. And i use my magic bullet and it really does blend nice. I also add a little sugar free hazelnut or vanilla coffee mate and splenda. Hope that helps . LisaMarie

Thanks Lisa, I had been wondering about that too. I remember Jamie said something about protein breaking down in hot fluids. Is the Jay Robb brand the only brand that can tolerate some heat, I wonder, or is this true of all dried protein powder? Thanks for the post. It was fun chatting last night!! Hugs, Amy (Cassotta!)

I can only quote Jay Robb's response. It would be best to get in touch with the company you get your protien from. Yes the chat was great. I hope you kiddies are feeling better. LisaMarie

LisaMarie: Thank you for sharing this. This is the knowledge I have from the groups online, protein can be mixed w/ hot fluid (NEVER BOILING) like what comes out of a coffee maker...I do not have exact degree temperature that it would start to break down at. UNLESS using a protein like optimum nutritions anywhey it is made to cook, bake with. http://www.optimumnutrition.com/anywhey/default.html Take Care, Jamie Lap RNY 10/9/02 Dr. Singh 320/163 5'9'' (lost 45# before surgery) Plastics 6/9/04 & 11/11/2005 Dr. King http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=c1132518510 "Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect, it just means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections!"

Thanks Jamie, that's helpful. I'll have to try protein powder in my coffee because mixed in water I have not been too enthused! By the way, you're post photo is beautiful! You look great! Hugs, Amy

I have always used Unjury in my coffee! I love the chocolate and vanilla that they sell. I add them to my milk, stir and then add my coffee. I never have a problem.

The Magic Bullet is an AWESOME blender! PERFECT for protein shakes! www.walgreens.com has then $59 free S&H, some target stores have them, Walmart had them at Holiday time. You can get them BOGO free at www.buythebullet.com but the rip off is S&H (pay like $39 for each one to be delivered!) This thing CHOPS ICE like there is NO tomorrow! Cleanup is a snap!
