Question!!!!!
Hi Beth,
Your husband is not correct about WLS patients not being able to be intubated. The RNY patients cannot have an NG tube (nasogastric tube into the stomach) without being scoped, normal folks can. Intubation is a tube that goes down the throat through the trachea, which leads to the lungs. The esophagus also starts in the throat but leads to the stomach, so intubation has nothing to do with the GI tract.
I also took notice about getting an ID bracelet. Interesting idea!

Beth,
I agree with Lisa, it is a matter of choice and I happen to think it is important to have one so I wear one all the time as well. I never take mine off so it is with me at all times. I also got one from Ebay, I have the beaded bands that can be changed, it is a pretty piece of jewelry.
Take care

Hi Beth,
Inamed, the maker of our band makes patient cards that you can carry in your wallet. I was the one to tell Catherine and Dr Choi about this, they had no idea about it....I knew from other lap band forums. I bugged them about it actually and she gave me Inamed's phone to call. It's a whole patient information packet which is what they should have given us. I know some people mention bariatric restaurant discounts are available in restaurants, but I mostly wanted the card for the emergency aspect.
When you go for your next appointment, ask Catherine if you see her in the hallway if she ordered the patient information packets, from Inamed, or you can also email her too.
She emailed me back and said she was going to call the rep so hopefully she did. But I got my packet directly from Inamed! You can also send a registration form in and get a free pedometer from them as well!

I have a card in my wallet from my surgeon that
says exactly what was done during my RNY bypass
surgery but i feel no one is going to fully check my
wallet for me the braclet speaks for me when i cant.
MINE SAYS: gastric bypass
NO ng tube
without scope
SAYS enough for me others say more.
GOOD LUCK in ur choice

i know you emailed me on this. I now have a bracelet and carry a card with my surgens name and phone number on it. (one he gave me) in my purse. I think its important to wear one. what if you where in an accident and they took ya to the hospital I wouldn't want them to shove something down my throax and risk ruining my WLS.
I got my Bracelets from a place called 911Medalert.com they have so much on there(yes i got two because i tend to have a lot of retard moments) they have more than bracelets (necklaces and keyring tags ect its so awsome)
good luck
Nikki
