I am two years out, and for the past week I have been experiencing numbness and tingling of the hands and feet. I have ignored it, but it has not gone away, so I wanted to ask if anyone thinks it may be related in any where to the WLS... Any is welcomed... I have an appointment to see my doctor on March 3rd Alberto

Ehrn my B-12 numbers were down, my doc asked me if I had any tingling of my fingers, hands or toes because that is a sign of low B-12. Ask your doctor if your numbers are low. Good Luck! Lisa 371/341/187/140

Alberto, I am not sure about that but I am with the others by saying you should have your levels checked but I am sure on the 3rd you will have that done after seeing the Dr. I wish you all the best hun ~hugs~ I know for me my hands tingle after waking in the morning but I have come to learn that is when I've had to much salt the prior day. But nothing with the feet, please keep us posted! ~hugs~ Debra P

Alberto: These can be signs of B12 deficiency (yes related to your wls) a neuropathy....When was your last set of labs? (including CBC, B12, B1, MMA, Homocystine)??? If left untreated it can quickly progress and B12 deficiency is common in wlsers and can become permanent! (Think nerve/brain damage). It could be other things too, but if B12 deficiency it is can be cheaply treated! Do you take Sublingual B12 or B12 shots? Symptoms can happen in the 400-500 range which is 'normal' by some standards..We like ours up 800-1000 because we malabsorb and stores can drop fast! Most Providers do a B12 ever 3-6mo depending on last level! B1 also can cause these symptoms: http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec12/ch154/ch154f.html Symptoms include a *****ling (pins-and-needles) sensation in the toes, a burning sensation in the feet that is particularly severe at night, and pain, weakness, and wasting (atrophy) of muscles in the legs. wow Thank you so much for all this valuable information, could you direct me to any web sites that I can read that writes about us wls people needing to stay at 800-1000 because we malabsorb ? I looked up all my labs and I have been going down since surgery I started at 1067 four months out then 699 six months later, then 650 one year out, its been one year since my last b-12 check Alberto

hi! Like everyone else is saying it can be b12 but it can also be B1, which is often over looked. When they take your blood for the B12, make sure they do B1 as well. It isn't included w/the rest of the routine B's. They have to take a special tube for it that needs to be frozen and send to another lab for testing. thiamin is someting alot of us lack in our diets and can effect your nervous system in the long run. http://chemistry.gsu.edu/glactone/vitamins/b1/#disease Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for there insight... I will get my blood work done tomorrow, I have the RX already... and I will call my doctor... You know I have been forgetting to take my b12 I knew that b12 was a concern for us wls people, but I didn't know these were the symptoms of it, thanks to everyone here I am hoping its the b-12 that is giving me these symptoms, and not something else.. I know the b-12 thing could be serious but at least it can be taken care of easily Alberto

Alberto, I know you are going to take care of this and get your blood work done. But you should know that a b-12 deficiency can be very serious. If it is let go too long the nerve damage can be permanent. Take care, Mary 302/177.5/1??
